Slow-roasted pork in Hillstreet

Hog roast hire in Hillstreet, slow-roasted on site

Slow-roasted pork carved to order: that’s hog roast hire in Hillstreet. The classic roll comes with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling, with sides and extras to choose from. Popular choices include hog roast rolls, crackling and coleslaw, and we are regularly asked to cater weddings, day or evening and milestone birthdays.

Somewhere as small as Hillstreet, a field, yard or garden is often the spot. Country lanes and long drives are fine if we know about them, and firm, level ground matters most. Timings are planned around your event, because the roast has to start hours before you eat.

Planning for dietary needs

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • We don’t offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it’s needed
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option
  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.

Salads, coleslaw and potatoes make it a full meal.

How it works

A hog roast is always cooked outside, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We’ll agree the spot with you beforehand. Evenings in Hillstreet stay light until about 9:25pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm; once it is dark, we need light at the carving station.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

How to prepare

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Give us a contact number for the day

FAQs for Hillstreet

What’s the nearest station to Hillstreet?

Totton station, about 2.3 miles south-east of the centre.

Do you come out to small places like Hillstreet?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

How do we prepare?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We will bring the rest.

Do you come to Hillstreet?

We do. Tell us the venue or postcode and we’ll check the date.

How do you work out quantities?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you are feeding, so tell us your best estimate. We’ll confirm the menu in the quote.

Is our garden big enough?

Many gardens are big enough, and a way to wheel the equipment through. Send us a photo.

What happens after service?

We pack everything away after service, and we take our equipment with us.

What’s the price?

Every booking is quoted individually, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Tell us about your event for a quote.

Working with your venue

For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, you’ll need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Planning on behalf of a committee? One clear contact makes everything easier, especially on the day.

Full catering or machine hire?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

How we price a hog roast

Each price is built from:

  • Distance from us
  • Site access
  • How many people are eating
  • Menu choices and extras

A hog roast is often good value for a crowd, since one roast goes a long way. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

What we need to know

When you enquire, please mention:

  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Where the event is
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Allergies we should know about

Numbers not final yet? Give us your best estimate and we’ll quote on that, and you can confirm nearer the time. Fill in our quote form.

The menu, dish by dish

Rotisserie chicken

For guests who don’t eat pork, rotisserie chicken is the easy answer, and children typically like it too.

Roast pork

Everything starts with the slow-roasted pork: carved in front of you, a mix of shoulder and leg, straight from the roaster.

What the cooking area needs

The right spot for the roaster makes everything easier. Look for:

  • Vehicle access close to the cooking area
  • A step-free route to wheel the equipment in
  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Next to a barbecue, one roast feeds everyone at once, so nobody stands at a grill all afternoon. Our guide compares the two. Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups normally cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Why Hillstreet hosts choose us

  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • Served at the time you choose

See our prices page and what a hog roast costs.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
