How our hog roast hire works in The Frenches

Booking a hog roast means you do not have to cook. We arrive hours before you eat, set up under cover and roast slowly, ready to carve when you are. We serve spit-roast lamb, coleslaw and salads, and we’re frequently booked for garden parties and barbecues and christmas parties.

For a rural spot like The Frenches, a hog roast feels right at home. Tell us about gates, tracks and the ground. Timings are planned around your event, working back from when you want to eat, so the food is ready at the right moment.

How to compare hog roast caterers

Organising for someone else?

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before you book. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

For venues and planners, we’re happy to work alongside your team.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

A hog roast has one downside: it is pork. So we offer lamb, chicken and vegetarian and vegan choices too for anyone who does not eat it. A hog roast is frequently good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

What you get with us

  • Staff to serve, so you don’t have to
  • Fresh carving at the serving station
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • We bring everything to cook and serve

Catered or do it yourself?

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

Planning the cooking spot

Most gardens, car parks, yards and fields work if a few things are right. Here’s what helps:

  • A way to wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Parking near the spot
  • A safe distance from walls, tents and trees

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Your questions about a hog roast in The Frenches

Is The Frenches too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

What’s the nearest station to The Frenches?

The closest is Mottisfont & Dunbridge station, roughly 2.5 miles away.

Can you do gluten-free?

We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We will be as flexible as we can. Keep us posted on the day and we’ll fit around changes.

Does the roaster have to be outside?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

How much will it be?

Numbers, menu and travel decide the price. Send us the details and we will quote.

Can we have lamb or chicken?

It’s built around the hog, but lamb and chicken can be added.

Will there be enough to go round?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so tell us your best estimate. We will confirm the menu in the quote.

How the day works

It’s a relaxed, well-organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, use the cooking spot you’ve chosen, and roast, carve and serve without fuss. Evenings in The Frenches stay light until about 9:25pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm; after dark, the serving area and the path to it need good lighting.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We clear up and go.

Preparing for the day

  • Name a contact for the day
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
