Hog roast hire for your event in Four Marks

We roast the hog at your event, not in a kitchen miles away, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp when it’s served. Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options can go alongside. Whether it is club events and presentations and staff days and open days, we’ll put together a menu of hog roast rolls, spit-roast lamb and rotisserie chicken and more.

For a place the size of Four Marks, your own garden is frequently the best venue: space to cook, no venue hire and no cooking for you. Let us know how we reach the garden. Your quote spells out what’s included: serving times, the menu, staff and anything else agreed, with no surprises on the day.

Roasting pork on a rotisserie spit, skin scored and golden

How it works

The secret is time: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin turns into crackling. It rests for a short while before carving. In Four Marks, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. We roast slowly on site, then carve for your guests.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we pack away.

What the cooking area needs

It’s worth planning the cooking area in advance. We look for:

  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Flat outdoor ground for the roaster and a gazebo
  • Any venue rules sorted in advance

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Tell us about dietary needs early and we’ll help. Some ideas:

  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them

Expect us to be on site for much of the day, since slow roasting starts early.

We also hire out the roaster for DIY hog roasts.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a cold buffet, a hog roast is hot, freshly carved and feels like an occasion. Buffets can sit out for hours. Distance is part of the price: we include travel in the quote. Tell us the exact address so the quote is accurate.

Why book with us

  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Timed around your day
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • A choice of salads and potatoes

Working with your venue

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before booking. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.

Planning on behalf of a committee? One clear contact makes everything easier, especially on the day.

Should I cook it myself?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

FAQs for Four Marks

We’re gathering after a service at Church of the Good Shepherd: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Send us the address.

What’s the nearest station to Four Marks?

Alton station, about 4.6 miles north-east of the centre.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. We can frequently serve indoors if the venue agrees.

What comes with the hog roast?

Rolls with roast pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Extras include lamb, chicken, halloumi skewers, a vegan option, salads and potatoes.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We work back from when you want to eat, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

What if it rains?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain is not a problem for the roast. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

Do you come to Four Marks?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, Four Marks and the rest of Hampshire included. Tell us the venue and we’ll quote.

Is hog roast hire catered or DIY?

We offer full catering and DIY machine hire. Your quote will set out what’s included.

Prices and what affects them

Each booking is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • How many people are eating
  • How long the roast and service take
  • The date and time of year
  • Plates or china

Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

What we need to know

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • The date and time of the event
  • A photo of the cooking area
  • The address or postcode

Every quote lists the menu, the serving time, staff and plates, so you can compare caterers fairly. Use our quote form.
