Hog roast hire in Charlton

About our hog roast hire in Charlton

We roast the hog at your event, not in a kitchen miles away, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp when it is served. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. For big birthdays and anniversaries and gatherings after a funeral, we will put together a menu of hog roast rolls, salads and new potatoes for your guests.

Somewhere as small as Charlton, a field, yard or garden is often the spot. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives, and firm, level ground matters most. Plates come as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

The process

Expect a calm, organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we’ve agreed, and get on with roasting and serving. Around midsummer it stays light in Charlton until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening service is usually in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Before we arrive

  • Name a contact for the day
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat

Allergies and dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:

  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Count anyone who does not eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option
  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled

Expect us to be on site for much of the day, since slow roasting starts early.

Add lamb or chicken for a second roast, priced in the quote.

Charlton questions

What’s the nearest station to Charlton?

The closest is Andover station, roughly 0.8 miles away.

Is Charlton too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Is mains power needed?

No, the roast is cooked on gas. Let us know what’s on site.

Do you serve the crackling?

It is: slow roasting crisps the skin and we break it up for everyone.

Is hog roast hire catered or DIY?

Both are available: we can cater fully or hire out the machine. Most people choose catering.

Is it just pork?

The hog is the centrepiece, with lamb and chicken as extras.

Do you serve the food?

You don’t need anyone else: we carve, serve and tidy up.

What comes with the hog roast?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Sides and extra meats are listed in your quote.

Planners, venues and businesses

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so check before booking. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

If you’re a venue or event planner, we’re happy to work alongside your team.

Catered or do it yourself?

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

Where the roaster can go in Charlton

The cooking area is the main thing to plan. A quick checklist:

  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
  • A sheltered place for people to eat if it rains
  • A safe distance from walls, tents and trees

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.
