Slow-roasted pork in Kingsmead

Hog roast hire in Kingsmead, carved to order

We provide a fully catered hog roast: roasting, carving and serving are all done for you. For confident cooks, the machine can be hired on its own. We’re often asked to cater wakes and memorial gatherings and sports clubs and societies, serving halloumi skewers, rotisserie chicken and salads.

Somewhere like Kingsmead, a yard or firm field often works. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Our chef carves in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.

How the day works

Your timings come first. If things run late, a cooked roast can be kept hot for a while, so keep us posted on the day. Because the roast takes hours, daylight is worth planning: in Kingsmead, sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, while in December the light goes at about 4:00pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. We carve and serve when you are ready to eat.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Make sure we can wheel the roaster to the spot

Planning help

Planning for dietary needs

Some guests will not eat pork, so it is worth adding an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option
  • Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance
  • Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

Name someone to meet us, ideally not the host, so you can enjoy yourself.

Add lamb or chicken for a second roast, priced in the quote.

What comes off the roaster

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

Our vegan option is a vegan burger or sausage, in a roll, with salad on the side.

Roast pork

We carve as we serve, which keeps it hot and moist right to the last roll.

For event organisers in Kingsmead

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so it is worth asking first. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers, sharing timings and a site plan.

A hog roast compared with other options

Next to a street-food van, a hog roast feeds a crowd quickly from one roast, with no waiting for individual orders to cook. When comparing prices, compare the same things: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

Why us?

  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • An itemised quote
  • Served at the time you choose
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it

Read how we price and our hog roast cost guide.

Catered or do it yourself?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

What a hog roast costs

Things that change the price:

  • The date and time of year
  • Distance from us
  • Whether you want china
  • The serving time and how long we are on site

Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Getting an accurate quote

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Please include:

  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • An estimate of numbers
  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Any venue rules

Not sure how many to cater for? Give us your best estimate and we will quote on that, then confirm closer to the date. Use our quote form.

Kingsmead questions

Is Kingsmead close to London?

About 61 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Do you come out to small places like Kingsmead?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

How does hog roast hire work?

You choose the date, the menu and the serving time; we do the rest. Just give us an outdoor spot to cook.

What if things run late?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

Do you clear up?

We clear the serving area and pack away, and leave the area tidy.

Is hog roast hire catered or DIY?

Both are available: fully catered, where we roast, carve and serve, or DIY machine hire. Most people choose catering.

What’s the price?

Every booking is quoted individually, depending on numbers, menu, timings and travel. Ask us for a quote.

What happens in bad weather?

Rain does not stop the cooking. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.
