Catered or do it yourself?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

The process

Serving is straightforward: the chef carves and the team serves, with the sides served alongside. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. With sunset at about 4:00pm in December, most Christmas parties in Gilbert Street are after dark. We bring lighting for the cooking area; tell us about lighting on the way to it.

  1. It starts with your date, venue and rough numbers.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive early and get the roast going.
  4. The team serves hot rolls at the agreed time.
  5. We clear away, even on a dark, wet evening.

How to prepare

  • Send final numbers in good time
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Name a contact for the day

To get a quote, just tell us the date, where the Christmas party is and roughly how many. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Use our quote form.

Planning the cooking spot

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, so a few things are worth checking:

  • Light by the serving table
  • Space away from buildings, marquees and trees
  • A short route for our equipment

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before booking.

From the roaster

  • Salads
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Roast turkey
  • Crackling
  • Roast potatoes
  • Vegan option (Ve)
  • Stuffing and apple sauce
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Rotisserie chicken

A hog roast or other catering?

Next to a winter barbecue, a hog roast copes much better with the cold. For larger numbers, a hog roast is generally good value, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Why us?

  • Planned to your running order
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
