What comes off the roaster

Stuffing and apple sauce

Stuffing and a dollop of apple sauce turn a pork roll into a hog roast roll, just as they should.

Rotisserie chicken

For guests who do not eat pork, rotisserie chicken is the easy answer, and it suits fussy eaters.

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Planners, venues and businesses

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers, sharing timings and a site plan.

Prices and what affects them

The biggest factors are:

  • Season and day of the week
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Whether you want china

UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. Every event gets its own quote, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

What we need to know

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what to include:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • The date and time of the event

Launton: your questions answered

Is Launton too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Which station is closest to Launton?

The closest is Bicester North station, roughly 1.4 miles away.

Can you work around our timings?

We work back from when you want to eat, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

What happens after service?

Our staff clear up after service, leaving the spot as we found it.

Is crockery included?

Plates come as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.

Do hog roasts work in winter?

We roast outdoors whatever the season. Plan a warm place for guests.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. We can often serve indoors if the venue agrees.

What about coeliacs?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we’ll bring them. We’ll give you full allergen information for every dish.

A hog roast compared with other options

Next to a winter barbecue, a hog roast copes much better with the cold. Midweek and quieter months are often easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Ask us and we’ll suggest the best fit for your budget.

  • A level spot outdoors with lighting nearby
  • Clearance from walls and tents

The process

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, timed so it is ready when you want to eat. By about 3:55pm in late December, Launton is dark. A Christmas party in the evening means carving under lights, and a lit path from the door.

  1. Book early for December.
  2. You get a quote with the menu.
  3. We arrive while it is light and set up under cover.
  4. We serve pork, turkey and sides.
  5. We tidy up and leave.

How to prepare

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
