Slow-roasted pork in Southcote

About our Christmas hog roast in Southcote

Christmas fairs and lights switch-ons in Southcote suit a hog roast stall: warm rolls when it’s cold outside. We serve roast turkey, crackling and halloumi skewers, and we are often booked for lights switch-on evenings and christmas family parties.

In Southcote, festive gatherings tend to be at home or the hall. We need firm ground and some light. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we’ll tell you exactly what’s in each dish.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a cold buffet, hot food wins in winter. A hog roast is frequently good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

Why book with us

  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Planned to your running order
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow

See our prices page and our hog roast cost guide.

Catered or do it yourself?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

How the day works

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. In December, it’s dark in Southcote by about 3:55pm, so plan lighting for any party after mid-afternoon. We set up in daylight and roast into the evening.

  1. Ask early for a December date.
  2. We check your venue and send a quote.
  3. We set up under cover in daylight.
  4. We serve hot rolls and turkey if you’ve chosen it.
  5. We clear the serving area and go.

Getting ready for the day

  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat

Southcote: your questions answered

Is Southcote close to London?

About 40 miles from central London, and well within our area.

What’s the nearest station to Southcote?

Reading Green Park station, about 1.1 miles south of the centre.

Can you trade at our Christmas fair?

We do Christmas fairs and lights switch-ons. Send us the details.

What comes with the hog roast?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. You can add lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options, salads, coleslaw and potatoes.

Can you roast in the rain?

We roast under cover, so the food is not affected. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

Is there a non-pork option?

Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. Please note we don’t offer halal meat.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. We can frequently serve indoors if the venue agrees.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We plan the timings from when you want to eat.

How we price a hog roast for your Christmas party

There’s no fixed price list, since every event is different. What matters most:

  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • Plates or china
  • The date and time of year
  • How many people are eating

Distance is part of the price: we include travel in the quote, with any London charges listed. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

What we need to know

These are the details we need:

  • Your date and serving time
  • Your menu choices
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • Any dietary needs or allergies

We price every booking individually, because numbers, menu, serving time and travel vary. Ask us for a quote for your Christmas party: use our quote form.

Planning the cooking spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, so a few things are worth checking:

  • A hall, office or heated marquee for guests
  • Clearance from walls and tents
  • A short route for our equipment

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.
