What comes off the roaster

Rotisserie chicken

Chicken off the rotisserie, carved or jointed can be served in a roll or on a plate.

Crackling

Long, slow roasting turns the skin into crackling, and we break it up so everyone gets a piece.

Lunch breaks are frequently fixed, so the roast is timed to the minute. Rolls are the quickest way to serve. For retirements and long-service awards and milestone celebrations, we will put together a menu of spit-roast lamb, coleslaw and halloumi skewers.

For farms and rural sites near Ockham, a hog roast brings a hot lunch to wherever the team is. Tell us about access. Timings are planned around your staff event, because the roast has to start hours before you eat.

Only if the landowner, typically the council, allows it. Ask them first.

Can you set up in our car park?

Wherever your facilities team agrees, outdoors and under cover.

How much will it be?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we’re on site. Tell us your date and we will send a price.

Can you feed everyone in a short break?

Give us your break time and numbers and we will plan around them.

When should we book?

As early as you can for summer weekends and December. For other dates, a few weeks can be enough. Ask and we will check.

The process

On the day, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, worked back from your serving time. Open days in Ockham typically finish in daylight, but in December it’s dark by about 3:55pm.

  1. Get in touch with the basics.
  2. We sort access and send a quote.
  3. We arrive and set up under cover.

  5. We leave the site clean.

Preparing for the day

Planning help

Should I cook it myself?

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.
