About our film set catering in Sholing

Chicken, lamb, halloumi skewers and a vegan option cover most crews, and we provide allergen information for every dish. Whether it is farm and estate locations and crew appreciation lunches, we’ll put together a menu of new potatoes, a vegan option and rotisserie chicken.

Shoots around Sholing often use houses, farms and lanes. Let us know about access. The hog is roasted on site at your shoot, slowly, over several hours, then carved fresh for your crew.

Planning for dietary needs

Some crew won’t eat pork, so it’s worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Post allergen details at base
  • Remember stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Collect crew dietary needs from the call sheet

We work to the location’s rules.

Lamb or chicken gives the crew a choice.

Location catering around Sholing

Sholing is about 2 miles south-east of Southampton, in Southampton. We are happy to travel to Sholing for shoots and the places nearby. We cater 40 places across Southampton, from the larger towns to small villages.

For crew arriving by train, Sholing station, about 0.5 miles south-west, is the nearest station. Nearby historic houses include Medieval Merchant's House (2.2 miles west) and Southampton Tudor House and Garden (2.2 miles west). Period locations like these generally keep catering well away from the house, so agree the base early. The New Forest National Park is within about 8 miles of Sholing, and locations in protected landscapes often have rules about cooking and vehicles. The coast is within about 2 miles of Sholing, and coastal unit bases can be exposed, so plan where crew will eat.

This part of Southampton takes in SO19, and we can cater your shoot anywhere in it. That could mean a shoot in a garden on Bay Road, Ashby Road and Loane Road or the roads around them, as long as there is somewhere outside to cook. Sholing is on the A3025, so it is easy for us to reach with the equipment. Close by, we cover shoots in Itchen (1 mile west), Thornhill (1 mile north-east), Bitterne (1 mile north), Peartree Green (1 mile west) and Northam (1 mile north-west). We also serve nearby towns such as Shirley (4 miles north-west), Regents Park (4 miles west), Maybush (5 miles north-west), Coxford (4 miles north-west), Freemantle (3 miles west) and Lordswood (4 miles north-west). Sholing is one of the larger places we cover in Southampton, with plenty of venues for shoots.

Well-known places in the area include Netley Castle (1.6 miles south) and Marlands Shopping Centre (2.3 miles west). Green spaces nearby include Netley Common.

  • Schools near Sholing include Oasis Academy Sholing (less than half a mile north) and Woolston School (0.6 miles south-west)
  • Local pubs include The Red Lion pub (1 mile north)

Is a hog roast right for your shoot?

Next to a full location catering unit, a hog roast is simpler and suits smaller shoots and one-off days. When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote isn’t always the best value.

What you get with us

  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too

Take a look at our pricing and our hog roast cost guide.

For planners, venues and organisers

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before you book. We will work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

If you’re a venue or event planner, we are happy to work alongside your team.

What a hog roast costs

Each price is built from:

  • How many people are eating
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • The serving time and how long we are on site
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays

The main driver is numbers: bigger groups typically cost less per head, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

What we need to know

When you contact us, it helps to include:

  • The address or postcode
  • Your date and serving time
  • Roughly how many people
  • Your menu choices

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so you can compare caterers fairly. Use our quote form.

Questions from Sholing

Do you cater at venues in the New Forest National Park?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles, so check with yours. We will work to whatever the site needs.

Is Sholing close to London?

About 68 miles from central London, and well within our area.

Is there a non-pork option?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. Halal meat is not something we offer.

Can you serve at our lunch call?

We work to your schedule, holding the roast if lunch moves.

Can you set up at the unit base?

Not much: a level area at base, agreed with locations.

Do you bring plates?

Plates come as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.

How far ahead should we book?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. For other dates, a few weeks can be enough. Ask and we’ll check.

What if things run late?

Within reason, we can. Keep us posted on the day and we’ll adjust.

What the cooking area needs

Before the day, it helps to think about where the roaster will go. We look for:

  • Access agreed with locations
  • Sign-off from the location
  • Shelter for crew

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Step by step

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, with the sides served alongside. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. In December, daylight in Sholing ends around 4:00pm, so a late lunch or wrap at base needs lighting. Summer shoots have daylight until about 9:25pm.

  1. You send the location, date and lunch call.
  2. We check the route and send a price.
  3. We agree our position at base with the location manager.
  4. We carve to order the moment lunch is called.
  5. Afterwards we clear our spot at base.

Before we arrive

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages
