Funeral wake catering for Town Row

Funeral wake catering in Town Row, carved to order

For a celebration of life, a hog roast can reflect the person being remembered. Let us know if there’s anything special and we’ll try to help. We are often asked to cater remembrance gatherings and wakes in village halls, serving apple sauce, rotisserie chicken and salads.

In rural Town Row, home or the hall is usual, with the roaster in the yard or garden. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, slowly, over several hours, and carved only when you’re ready to eat.

What affects the price in Town Row

The biggest factors are:

  • The number of people
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • Menu choices and extras
  • How long the roast and service take

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. There is no one-size price, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Planners, venues and businesses

If you’re booking for a workplace, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We work to the site’s rules.

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

Space, access and the venue

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, so a few things are worth checking:

  • A level spot outdoors for the roaster
  • A friend or relative we can call
  • Parking close by for our vehicle

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a venue’s set menu, a hog roast at home or a hall can be simpler and better value. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Ask us and we’ll suggest the best fit for your budget.

What comes off the roaster

Roast pork

Our chef carves the pork as it is needed, so it stays hot and juicy.

Rotisserie chicken

For guests who don’t eat pork, rotisserie chicken is the easy answer, and children typically like it too.

Common questions in Town Row

Which station is closest to Town Row?

Crowborough station, about 2 miles west of the centre.

Is Town Row too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

What’s the price?

It depends on numbers, the menu and how long we are on site. Send us the details and we’ll quote.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

We do, if you are happy to roast and carve yourself. Ask and we will talk you through it.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. Power can help with lighting after dark.

What happens in bad weather?

We cook under a gazebo, so rain isn’t a problem for the roast. Somewhere covered for people to eat helps.

Is there a non-pork option?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Please note we do not offer halal meat.

Is crockery included?

Plates come as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we’ll add it to the quote.

Looking after everyone

You’ll get allergen information for everything we serve. To help:

  • Older guests may prefer food on plates
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if needed
  • Halal isn’t offered, so arrange it separately
  • Find out who would prefer chicken or a vegetarian option

We set up quietly and start the roast early, out of the way of arriving guests.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

The process

People love watching the carving: the hog is carved in front of your guests, with crackling for everyone who wants it. Summer evenings in Town Row stay light until about 9:15pm, so a garden gathering works well.

  2. We confirm availability and send a simple quote.
