Hog roast for events in Comp

How our hog roast for events works in Comp

For a school fair, you want food families will queue for. Pork rolls, chicken and a vegan option cover most visitors. For school fairs and sports days and community events, we will put together a menu of rotisserie chicken, crackling and apple sauce.

For a village fête or field event near Comp, we can cook in a field. Tell us about the ground and the way in. Timings are planned around your event, working back from when you want to eat.

The process

It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we have agreed, and roast, carve and serve without fuss. Late-May events in Comp have light until about 8:50pm, and midsummer ones until about 9:20pm. After dark, the stall needs lighting.

  1. Organisers send us the event details.
  2. We check the pitch and paperwork and quote.
  3. The roast starts before the gates open.
  4. We carve to order through the day.
  5. We pack down and take our waste.

Before we arrive

  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Think about shelter for your visitors
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a volunteer-run kitchen, we take the cooking off your volunteers. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. There is no one-size price, which is why each one gets its own quote.

What you get with us

  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • A choice of salads and potatoes

Working with your venue

Organisers may ask for documents such as a risk assessment or gas safety information. Tell us what you need and we’ll tell you what we can send.

If you are organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, let us know who we will deal with on the day. We’ll keep everyone in the loop.

Comp: your questions answered

Do you come out to small places like Comp?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Do you trade at school fairs around Comp?

Yes, if the school is happy for a hog roast on site. Tell us the date and pitch details.

What should we sort out beforehand?

A clear, level cooking spot, a route to wheel the equipment in and a contact for the day. We will bring the rest.

How long does the roast need?

Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We plan the timings from when you want to eat.

What happens after service?

We pack everything away after service, and we take our equipment with us.

Do you do charity events?

We’re happy to talk it through and we’ll see what’s possible.

Can visitors buy their own food?

Some events pay for a package, others want a stall. We will agree what suits yours.

How much room do you need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. A photo helps.

Catered or do it yourself?

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

Prices and what affects them

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • The date and time of year
  • How many people are eating
  • Crockery choices

Distance is part of the price: travel is included in your quote, with any London charges listed. Tell us the exact address so the quote is accurate.

What we need to know

To check availability and the cooking area, tell us:

  • Where the event is
  • Dietary requirements
  • Rough numbers
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so you can compare caterers fairly. Send us your details through our quote form.

Allergies and dietary needs

Tell us about dietary needs early and we will help. Some ideas:

  • Remember stuffing generally contains gluten
  • Make the stall easy to find
  • Share the event’s food safety requirements with us
  • Show allergens at the stall

Give us a contact on the day.

Coleslaw goes well with pork rolls.
