Hog roast for events in Further Quarter, carved to order

At a fête, fair or festival in Further Quarter, a hog roast stall draws a crowd. We cook on site and carve to order, so visitors get hot food fast. We’re often asked to cater small festivals and agricultural and country shows, with a vegan burger or sausage, crackling and rotisserie chicken.

At a field event near Further Quarter, power and water may be limited; the roaster runs on gas, so that is fine. We plan the timings around your day, working back from when you want to eat.

What a hog roast costs

There is no fixed price list, because every event is different. What matters most:

  • Travel to Further Quarter
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Crockery choices

When comparing prices, compare the same things: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. The cheapest quote is not always the best value.

Getting an accurate quote

To check the date and the space, we will need:

  • Allergies we should know about
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china

Planning ahead? Popular dates fill up early, especially summer Saturdays and December Fridays. Send us your date for a quote: fill in our quote form.

Should I cook it myself?

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you.

How the day works

Slow roasting is the whole point: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin turns into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. Summer events in Further Quarter have daylight until about 9:15pm at midsummer and about 7:00pm by late September, so evening trading typically finishes in daylight in high summer. For winter events, dark by about 3:50pm, the pitch needs lighting.

  1. It starts with your event date, site and expected numbers.
  2. We check access to the pitch and send a price.
  3. We set up early so the roast is ready when visitors arrive.
  4. We carve and serve through the agreed hours.
  5. We pack up and leave the pitch tidy.

Preparing for the day

  • Ensure we can wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Let us know about tight access
  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches

Planning help

Allergies and dietary needs

Most people love a hog roast, but it’s pork. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Tell us if there’s a vegetarian or vegan focus
  • Signpost the stall clearly
  • Remember stuffing usually contains gluten
  • Check other traders are not all selling pork

We arrive early, set up on the pitch and start roasting, so the roast is ready when visitors arrive.

The vegan option is popular at festivals.

Who books hog roast for events in Further Quarter?

We’re self-contained, so organisers have little to provide.

What to look for in a quote

  • The deposit, balance and cancellation terms

FAQs for Further Quarter

Is Further Quarter too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

How far is Further Quarter from London?

About 43 miles from central London, and well within our area.

Can a hog roast raise money?

Tell us about the event and how you’d like to raise money, and we’ll suggest options.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. We can often serve indoors if the venue agrees.

When do you start roasting?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We work back from your serving time.

Do you bring plates?

We supply plates as standard. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

Do we need to provide electricity?

The roaster runs on gas, so we don’t need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Can you do a school fair?

We do. Check vehicle access with the school.

Organising for someone else?

Planning on behalf of a committee? One clear contact makes everything easier, especially on the day.

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so tell them a hog roast is coming. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

A closer look at the menu

Roast pork

Slow-roasted pork is the heart of the menu: carved in front of you, a mix of shoulder and leg, straight from the roaster.

Rotisserie chicken

Chicken off the rotisserie, carved or jointed goes into rolls or onto plates alongside the pork.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with burger vans, a hog roast feels more special at a traditional fête. Travel matters for the price: travel is included in your quote, with any London charges listed. Tell us the exact address so the quote is accurate.
