At a fête or show near Littlefield Green, we can cook in a field. Ground and access matter, so tell us about them. Our chef carves in front of your visitors, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Not everyone eats pork, so it’s worth adding an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • Let us know if many visitors are vegetarian
  • Balance the food line-up
  • Remember stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Make the stall easy to find

We arrive early, set up on the pitch and start roasting, so the roast is ready when visitors arrive.

Ask about gluten-free rolls.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

For big events, tell us expected numbers. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Why us?

  • Planned to your running order
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Step by step

Service is quick once we start carving: the chef carves and the team serves, with the sides served alongside. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. In late May, sunset in Littlefield Green is about 8:55pm, and midsummer ones until about 9:25pm. Evening festivals need lighting by the stall after that.

  1. Organisers send us the event details.
  2. We confirm the pitch and send a price.
  3. We set up early on the pitch.
  4. We carve to order through the day.
  5. We pack down and take our waste.

Before we arrive

  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Send final numbers in good time

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Halloumi and vegetable skewers are the vegetarian choice: squeaky, salty cheese with colourful veg.

Stuffing and apple sauce

Sharp, sweet apple sauce and savoury sage and onion stuffing go with the pork perfectly. Note that stuffing normally contains gluten.

Your questions about a hog roast for your event in Littlefield Green

Do you trade at school fairs around Littlefield Green?

Yes, if the school is happy for a hog roast on site. Send us the date and where the roaster would go.

Can you do a hog roast in Ockwells Park?

Only if the landowner, normally the council, allows it. Ask them first.

Do you trade at village fêtes?

We do. Send us the details.

How big a hog will we need?

We size the roast to your numbers, so a good estimate matters. The quote sets it out.

What space does the roaster need?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We’ll check it with you before booking.

Is there a non-pork option?

Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. Please note we don’t offer halal meat.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

DIY machine hire is available. We will confirm what comes with it and how to use it.

How soon do you get booked up?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But do ask even at short notice: use our quote form.

Organising for someone else?

Marquee hire companies frequently have rules about cooking near their tents, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We will keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

Planning on behalf of a committee? A single point of contact keeps things simple, particularly when timings shift.

Planning the cooking spot

It’s worth planning the cooking area in advance. The ideal spot has:

  • Event approval for hot-food traders
  • Any paperwork the organisers need
  • Flat, firm ground for the roaster

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before booking.
