Should I cook it myself?

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

DIY hire works best when someone in the family loves cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

Organising for someone else?

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so tell them a hog roast is coming. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

For workplace bookings, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We will fit in with site rules.

A hog roast or other catering?

For big events, tell us expected numbers, so we can plan. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. A long, slow roast means an early start, and the quote reflects that.

Why book with us

  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it

Read our prices page or what a hog roast costs.

Allergies and dietary needs

Allergies and dietary needs are easy to manage if we know in advance. Some ideas:

  • Let us know if many visitors are vegetarian
  • Gluten-free rolls can be brought on request
  • Remember stuffing normally contains gluten
  • Put the menu and allergen information on display

We clear the pitch and take everything away.

The vegan option is popular at festivals.

Turners Hill questions

Is Turners Hill too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Do you trade at school fairs around Turners Hill?

Yes, with the school’s permission. Send us the date and where the roaster would go.

Is it pay as you go?

Some events pay for a package, others want a stall. We will agree what suits yours.

When should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But do ask even at short notice: use our quote form.

What paperwork do you provide?

Requirements vary. Let us know what you need.

When do you start roasting?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We work back from your serving time.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. Halal meat is not something we offer.

Do you provide china?

We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.

How it works

It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. Arrival and serving times are agreed beforehand, set up where we’ve agreed, and roast, carve and serve without fuss. Summer events in Turners Hill have daylight until about 9:20pm at midsummer and about 7:05pm by late September, so evening trading normally finishes in daylight in high summer. Winter fairs, dark by about 3:55pm, need a well-lit pitch.

  1. You tell us the event, the pitch and the expected crowd.
  2. We check the pitch and any paperwork, then quote.
  3. We arrive early, set up on the pitch and start roasting.
  4. We carve and serve through the agreed hours.
  5. We pack up and leave the pitch tidy.

How to prepare

  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
