Slow-roasted pork in Upper Lambourn

Sports clubs, fun runs and tournaments suit a hog roast, served as people finish. Whether it’s festivals and town and village days, we can cook rotisserie chicken, crackling and a vegan burger or sausage.

At a field event near Upper Lambourn, power and water may be limited; the roaster runs on gas, so that is fine. Plates come as standard, with china available if you’d like it, at an extra cost.

A hog roast compared with other options

For big events, tell us expected numbers. The main driver is numbers: the price per head usually falls as numbers rise, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

What you get with us

  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Carved to order by a chef
  • No surprises: everything in writing
  • Our staff serve and clear

Take a look at how we price or our hog roast cost guide.

How we price a hog roast for your event

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Which meats and sides you choose

Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

What we need to know

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • Any venue rules
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • The date and time of the event
  • Rough numbers

Planning ahead? Popular dates fill up early, so ask early for summer Saturdays and December. Tell us your date and we will check it: send us your details through our quote form.

How it works

The roaster is gas-fired, so we do not need mains power to cook. Summer events in Upper Lambourn have daylight until about 9:25pm at midsummer and about 7:10pm by late September, so evening trading normally finishes in daylight in high summer. For winter events, dark by about 4:00pm, the pitch needs lighting.

  1. Start with the date and numbers.
  2. We agree how food will be paid for.
  3. We arrive and set up under cover.
  4. Carving keeps the queue moving.
  5. We clear up and go.

Getting ready for the day

  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Let us know about tight access

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

The menu, dish by dish

Crackling

The skin crisps up over the hours of roasting, and there is a piece for everyone who wants it.

Stuffing and apple sauce

Stuffing and a dollop of apple sauce turn a pork roll into a hog roast roll, just as they should.

Planning the cooking spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • Permission for cooking on the site
  • Flat, firm ground for the roaster
  • Access for our vehicle to the pitch

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly before booking.
