About our hog roast for events in Woolstone

A hog roast fits a village fête perfectly: the smell draws people over, and rolls are easy to eat while walking round. For school fairs and sports days and fun runs and sports events, we can cook halloumi skewers, crackling and hog roast rolls.

Summer fairs around Woolstone are frequently run by volunteers, so a self-contained hog roast helps. Our chef carves in front of your visitors, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling.

How it works

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. It then roasts slowly for several hours, timed so it is ready when you want to eat. Late-September events in Woolstone lose the light at about 7:05pm, so evening trading needs lights.

  1. Organisers send us the date, site, numbers and how food will be paid for.
  2. We check access to the pitch and send a price.
  3. We arrive early, set up on the pitch and start roasting.
  4. We serve to order through the event.
  5. We pack down, take our waste and leave the pitch clean.

Getting ready for the day

  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Gather dietary requirements early

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

A closer look at the menu

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Our vegetarian option is halloumi and vegetable skewers: squeaky, salty cheese with colourful veg.

Rotisserie chicken

For visitors who do not eat pork, rotisserie chicken is the easy answer, and children normally like it too.

Woolstone questions

Which station is closest to Woolstone?

The closest is Milton Keynes Central station, roughly 2.2 miles away.

How far is Woolstone from London?

About 46 miles from central London.

How long does a hog roast take to cook?

It depends on the size of the hog and the weather, but it is several hours. We’ll confirm our arrival time when we quote.

Do you trade at village fêtes?

A hog roast suits a fête perfectly. Ask for details.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

What do you need from us on the day?

Only the space and a contact number. We bring the roaster, cover and serving kit.

Who serves?

We carve and serve for you, then clear the serving area afterwards.

When should we book?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. Quieter dates can frequently be booked at shorter notice. Send your date and we will check.

What a hog roast costs

We do not use a fixed price list, since every event is different. The main factors are:

  • How long the roast and service take
  • Travel to Woolstone
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Whether you want china

The main driver is numbers: the price per head normally falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

Getting an accurate quote

To check availability and the cooking area, tell us:

  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • The venue or postcode
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Anything the venue has asked for

The quickest way to get a price is to send us your date, venue and numbers. A picture of the cooking area helps. Use our quote form.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Next to volunteers cooking, we take the cooking off your volunteers. A hog roast is frequently good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds a lot of people. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

Why us?

  • Staff to serve, so you don’t have to
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • A clear quote with everything listed
