For planners, venues and organisers

Event organisers frequently ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we’ll confirm what we can provide.

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a barbecue, a hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone, so nobody stands at a grill all afternoon. Our guide compares the two. Distance is part of the price: we include travel in the quote, with any London charges listed. Tell us the exact address so the quote is accurate.

Planning the cooking spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, so a few things are worth checking:

  • A step-free route to wheel the equipment in
  • A level patch of lawn, patio or hardstanding
  • Vehicle access close to the cooking area

Afton Park is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we will plan the journey.

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly before you book.

Questions from Afton Park

Is Afton Park too small for a hog roast?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Can you roast near the sea around Afton Park?

Yes. We roast under cover and choose a sheltered spot where we can.

Is our garden big enough?

It depends on the space and access more than size. Tell us about the garden and we will advise.

Is mains power needed?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Tell us what’s available and we will plan around it.

What if it rains?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower does not stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Is there a non-pork option?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat isn’t something we offer.

Do you clear up?

Our staff clear up after service, leaving the spot as we found it.

What should we sort out beforehand?

A clear, level cooking spot, a route to wheel the equipment in and a contact for the day. We bring everything else.

Should I cook it myself?

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

Step by step

Here’s how the day usually runs: we arrive, set up under cover and start roasting, the roast cooks gently through the day, and our chef carves it when you are ready. Around midsummer it stays light in Afton Park until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:05pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

Before we arrive

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
