Hog roast hire for Bluetown

Allergies and dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. A few tips:

  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Remember that stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information
  • We do not offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it’s needed
  • Count anyone who does not eat pork, and order an alternative for them

We’ll agree a contact for the day, who can show us the cooking spot and pass on any changes.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

About our hog roast hire in Bluetown

Booking a hog roast means you don’t have to cook. We get there early, put up the cover and roast for hours, then carve and serve at the time you choose. We are often asked to cater gatherings after a funeral and weddings and receptions, serving spit-roast lamb, hog roast rolls and new potatoes.

Somewhere like Bluetown, a yard or firm field often works. Mention gates and soft ground when you contact us. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, slowly, over several hours.

Organising for someone else?

Planning on behalf of a committee? A single point of contact keeps things simple, especially on the day.

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so check before you book. We will liaise with them on access and set-up.

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with a plated meal, a hog roast does not need a kitchen, which usually keeps the cost down. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

What you get with us

  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Our staff serve and clear

What comes off the roaster

Spit-roast lamb

Lamb roasted on the spit is a lovely alternative to pork, and handy for anyone who doesn’t eat pork.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Crunchy coleslaw suits roast pork, while salads and potatoes make a plated meal.

Bluetown: venues, access and local tips

Bluetown is about 4 miles south of Sittingbourne, in Kent. Events in Bluetown are part of our patch. We cover all 922 towns and villages in Kent, from the larger towns to small villages. We cater events right across the region, from Bluetown to Canterbury (about 14 miles away).

If you had Cromers Wood in mind, ask the council or landowner first: we can’t simply set up a roaster in a public park. Churches such as Church of St Catherine rarely have room for a roaster, but a hall or home close by typically does. Bluetown is within about 5 miles of the Kent Downs National Landscape, and some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles on site. Ask your venue about gas cooking and access.

This part of Kent takes in ME9, so your event can be anywhere in it. Neighbouring places where we cater events include Hollybushes (1 mile west), Milstead (1 mile north-west), Doddington (1 mile south-east), Wichling (1 mile south) and Frinsted (2 miles west). Further out, we also cater in Maidstone (10 miles west), Ashford (12 miles south-east), Canterbury (14 miles east), Sittingbourne (4 miles north), Whitstable (13 miles east) and Faversham (6 miles east).

Nearby you’ll also find Newnham Castle (2.4 miles east) and Sittingbourne Heritage Museum (3.4 miles north).

Should I cook it myself?

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

Space, access and the venue

Before the day, it helps to think about where the roaster will go. We look for:

  • Parking near the spot
  • Access for our equipment, without steps
  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.

The process

Service is quick once we start carving: the chef carves and the team serves, and sides go out at the same time. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. Light matters for a long roast: around Bluetown, it stays light until about 9:15pm at midsummer, but by late December it’s dark by about 3:50pm.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
  3. We agree timings and where the roaster goes.
  4. On the day we roast for hours, then carve to order.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we pack away.

How to prepare

  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Name a contact for the day

Planning help

Bluetown: your questions answered

Is Bluetown close to London?

Roughly 39 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Can you cater after a service at Church of St Catherine?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is normally elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

What do people get?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Your quote lists any sides and extras.

Can you cater in Bluetown?

We do. Tell us the venue or postcode and we’ll check the date.

Do you leave the area tidy?

Our staff clear the serving area, so you are not left with the mess.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We do not offer halal meat.

What space does the roaster need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We’ll check it with you before booking.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

Outside, always. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

How we price a hog roast

Every booking is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • The date and time of year
  • How many people are eating
  • The serving time and how long we are on site
  • The journey to the venue

Numbers make the biggest difference: bigger groups generally cost less per head, since much of the cost is fixed.

Details that help

To check availability and the cooking area, tell us:

  • Any dietary needs or allergies
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • An estimate of numbers

Send us the date, the address or ME9 postcode and rough numbers, along with your serving time. We will check the date and send a quote. Send us your details through our quote form.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Options beyond pork, including lamb, chicken and vegetarian dishes
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
