Roast pork

We carve as we serve, which keeps it hot and moist right to the last roll.

Crackling

Crackling is what people queue for: golden, crunchy and salty, straight off the hog.

About our hog roast hire in Earley

Booking a hog roast means you don’t have to cook. We arrive hours before you eat, set up under cover and roast slowly, ready to carve when you are. Typical bookings include milestone birthdays and Fêtes, fairs and shows, serving crackling, rotisserie chicken and hog roast rolls.

In Earley, the roaster usually goes in a back garden, a club or hall car park, or the grounds of a hired venue. All of them can work, as long as there’s a level spot clear of buildings and trees. Plates come as standard, with china available if you’d like it, at an extra cost.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a cold buffet, hot roast pork carved in front of you is a different experience. Buffets can sit out for hours. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose matters too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.

Why book with us

  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • Fresh carving at the serving station

Step by step

Here’s how the day usually runs: the roaster goes up and the hog goes on, the roast cooks gently through the day, and our chef carves it when you are ready. Around midsummer it stays light in Earley until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. You get an availability check and a clear quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day we roast for hours, then carve to order.
  5. We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

Getting ready for the day

  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain

FAQs for Earley

Can you do a hog roast in Maiden Erlegh Local Nature Reserve?

Only if the landowner, normally the council, allows it. Ask them first.

We are gathering after a service at Trinity Church: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is generally elsewhere. Send us the address.

What should we sort out beforehand?

Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

Do you leave the area tidy?

We pack everything away after service, and we take our equipment with us.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

How big a hog will we need?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so tell us your best estimate. We’ll confirm the menu in the quote.

What’s included?

The classic: pork in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Sides and extra meats are listed in your quote.

What if it rains?

Rain does not stop the cooking. A marquee, hall or barn for eating makes all the difference.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them

We’ll agree a contact for the day, who can show us the cooking spot and pass on any changes.

A second roast, lamb or chicken, gives people a choice, priced in the quote.

For event organisers in Earley

For venues and planners, we are happy to work alongside your team, sharing timings and a site plan.

Event organisers frequently ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we’ll confirm what we can provide.

Should I cook it myself?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.
