Working with your venue

If you are a venue or event planner, we can fit around your other suppliers.

For events on land you do not own, such as a park or field, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

The process

Carving is part of the show: our chef carves the pork in front of the queue, and the crackling is shared out so everyone gets some. Light matters for a long roast: in Four Elms, sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, while in December the light goes at about 3:55pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches

  • Permission from the venue or landowner
  • A step-free route to wheel the equipment in

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

Why choose a hog roast in Four Elms?

Compared with a cold buffet, a hog roast is hot, freshly carved and feels like an occasion. Buffets can sit out for hours. The main driver is numbers: bigger groups typically cost less per head, since much of the cost is fixed.

Why us?

  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • Sides to make it a full meal
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • We bring everything to cook and serve

Your questions about a hog roast in Four Elms

Can you do a hog roast in Bough Beech Reservoir?

Only if the landowner, generally the council, allows it. Ask them first.

We’re gathering after a service at Congregational Church: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is usually elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

How long does the roast need?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We work back from your serving time.

Can we just hire the roaster?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Is all of Kent covered?

We cater across Kent, including Four Elms. Ask for a quote.

Can you do gluten-free?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we will bring them. You’ll get allergen details for everything.

Do you need power or water?

The roaster runs on gas, so we do not need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Do you come to Four Elms?

We do. Tell us the venue or postcode and we will check the date.

Allergies and dietary needs

Not everyone eats pork, so it is worth adding an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Ask about allergies when you send invitations
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Count anyone who does not eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Put the menu on the invitation

You will not need to worry about the food on the day. We arrive hours ahead, set up, roast, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.

Prefer to cook yourself? Ask about DIY machine hire.

  • Slow-roasted on site for hours, outdoors at your event
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
