Hog roast hire for Freeland

Why choose a hog roast in Freeland?

Next to a barbecue, one roast feeds everyone at once, instead of food coming off the grill in batches. See our guide to hog roast or barbecue. Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head generally falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.

Why book our hog roast in Freeland

  • No surprises: everything in writing
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours

Hog roast hire for your event in Freeland

With hog roast hire, the cooking happens at your event, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp when it’s served. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. For Fêtes, fairs and shows and summer garden parties, we can cook crackling, coleslaw and salads.

In a hamlet or village like Freeland, a farmyard or a neighbour’s field can make a good cooking spot. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Everything is cooked on the day, at your venue, low and slow, for hours.

How we price a hog roast

We work out each quote from:

  • Travel to Freeland
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • The date and time of year
  • Numbers

When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

What we need to know

To get the best quote, tell us:

  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Dietary requirements
  • Roughly how many people

Busy weekends book up early, especially summer Saturdays and December Fridays. Tell us your date and we will check it: send us your details through our quote form.

Questions from Freeland

Do you come out to small places like Freeland?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

Can you cater after a service at Church of St Mary?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Food is normally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Do you serve the crackling?

Yes, the crackling is shared out as we carve.

Is there a non-pork option?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. Halal meat is not something we offer.

What happens when we hire a hog roast?

We roast on site, carve to order and serve, in rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling.

Do you cover the whole of Oxfordshire?

We cover Oxfordshire and the rest of London and the South East. Send us the address and we will quote.

Will there be enough to go round?

The roast is chosen to suit how many you’re feeding, so tell us your best estimate. The quote sets it out.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we’ll bring them. We will give you full allergen information for every dish.

Step by step

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. Around midsummer it stays light in Freeland until about 9:30pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

How to prepare

  • Choose someone to meet us on arrival
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps

Should I cook it myself?

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.
