Catered or do it yourself?
We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.
You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.
Gatcombe: venues, access and local tips
Gatcombe is about 2 miles south of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. We cover events in Gatcombe, along with the towns and villages around it. We bring hog roasts to all 125 towns and villages in the Isle of Wight. Our nearest city page is Southampton, about 18 miles away.
Churches such as St. Olave's Church rarely have room for a roaster, but a hall or home close by typically does. Within reach of Gatcombe are historic houses such as Gatcombe House (less than half a mile south-east) and Sheat Manor (0.5 miles south-east). Estates like these tend to have strict rules for caterers, so check before you book.
We cater events across PO30 and the streets around it. We can cater an event on streets such as Gatcombe Road, Rectory Lane and Newbarn Lane, as long as there is somewhere outside to cook. Neighbouring places where we cater events include Chillerton (1 mile south), Plaish (2 miles north-west), Clatterford (2 miles north), Bowcombe (2 miles north-west) and Carisbrooke (2 miles north). Within a short drive, we also cover Ryde (8 miles north-east), Cowes (6 miles north), Sandown (6 miles east), Shanklin (6 miles east), Ventnor (6 miles south-east) and East Cowes (6 miles north). - Nearby schools include Christ The King College (2.1 miles north)
Diets, allergies and alternatives
Most people love a hog roast, but it’s pork. Here’s how to cover everyone:
- Ask about allergies when you send invitations
- Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
- Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance
- We don’t offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it’s needed
On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We arrive hours ahead, set up, roast, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.
Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

FAQs for Gatcombe
Do you come out to small places like Gatcombe?
Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.
We’re gathering after a service at St. Olave's Church: can you cater?
Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is usually served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you will gather.
Does the roaster have to be outside?
No, the roast is always cooked outdoors under cover, away from buildings and marquee walls. We can frequently serve indoors if the venue agrees.
Is there a non-pork option?
We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat is not something we offer.
Do you clear up?
We clear the serving area and pack away, leaving the spot as we found it.
Do you travel across the Isle of Wight?
We cover the Isle of Wight and the rest of London and the South East. Send us the address and we will quote.
Where does the hog roast go?
Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. Send us a picture if you’re unsure.
How big a hog will we need?
We size the roast to your numbers, so tell us your best estimate. We’ll confirm the menu in the quote.
For planners, venues and organisers
If you’re a venue or event planner, we’re happy to work alongside your team.
Planning on behalf of a committee? A single point of contact keeps things simple, particularly when timings shift.
How we price a hog roast
We don’t use a fixed price list, because every event is different. What matters most:
- The serving time and how long we are on site
- Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
- Which meats and sides you choose
- Plates or china
Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.
What we need to know
For a quick, accurate price, send us:
- Your date and serving time
- The venue or postcode
- Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
- What the outdoor space is like
A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so you can compare caterers fairly. Fill in our quote form.
The process
Your timings come first. If things run late, a cooked roast can be kept hot for a while, so keep us posted on the day. Around midsummer it stays light in Gatcombe until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening service is usually in daylight. In December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.
- First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
- You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
- On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
- At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
- We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.
Getting ready for the day
- Measure the narrowest gate or passage
- Ensure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
- Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
How to get a price
To get a quote, just send us your date, venue and numbers. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Use our quote form.

About the food
Rotisserie chicken
Rotisserie chicken is there for anyone who’d rather not have pork, and it suits fussy eaters.
Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)
Not everyone eats meat, so halloumi and vegetable skewers make sure they’re not left with just salad.
A hog roast or other catering?
Compared with a cold buffet, a hog roast is hot, freshly carved and feels like an occasion. Buffets can sit out for hours. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. A simple menu keeps the cost down.
What you get with us
- A clear quote with everything listed
- Cooked on the day, low and slow
- Fresh carving at the serving station
- Planned to your running order

Where the roaster can go in Gatcombe
Before the day, it helps to think about where the roaster will go. We look for:
- A level patch of lawn, patio or hardstanding
- A marquee, hall or barn as a wet-weather plan
- A way to wheel the roaster to the spot
For somewhere as remote as Gatcombe, early notice helps us plan the trip.
If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.
