Hog roast hire for Grain

Hog roast hire for your event in Grain

We provide a fully catered hog roast: we roast, our chef carves and our staff serve. If you’d rather do it yourself, we also hire out the machine. On the menu are new potatoes, salads and crackling, and typical bookings are for wakes and memorial gatherings and birthdays and anniversaries.

In a hamlet or village like Grain, a farmyard or a neighbour’s field can make a good cooking spot. Mention gates and soft ground when you get in touch. Our chef carves in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

Bringing a hog roast to Grain

Grain is about 5 miles north-west of Minster, in Medway. We bring a hog roast to events anywhere in Grain, as long as there is an outdoor spot to cook. We bring hog roasts to all 68 towns and villages across Medway, from the larger towns to small villages. Our bookings stretch from Grain to Canterbury (20 miles away).

For a fundraiser at a school like St James Church of England Primary Academy, the roaster can cook on a pitch agreed with the school. Churches such as Church of St James rarely have room for a roaster, but a hall or home close by typically does.

We cover events in every part of ME3 and the streets around it. Whether your event is on High Street, Power Station Road and Chapel Road or anywhere nearby, we will bring the roaster to you. For events just outside Grain, we cover Wallend (1 mile west), Blue Town (2 miles south-east), Sheerness (2 miles south-east), Queenborough (3 miles south-east) and Rushenden (3 miles south). Within a short drive, we also cover Gillingham (8 miles south-west), Chatham (10 miles south-west), Rochester (10 miles south-west), Rainham (8 miles south-west), Strood (11 miles south-west) and Luton (10 miles south-west).

A little further out are Bluetown Heritage Centre (1.8 miles south-east).

  • Pubs nearby include The Hogarth Inn (within half a mile north-west)

Common questions in Grain

How far is Grain from London?

About 35 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Do you come out to small places like Grain?

No, we come to small places too. Let us know about access and the cooking spot.

What happens after service?

Our staff clear the serving area, so you’re not left with the mess.

Will there be enough to go round?

Quantities are based on your numbers, and we’ll talk it through when we quote.

Where does the hog roast go?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, well clear of walls, tents and branches. We’ll check it with you before booking.

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

We can supply gluten-free rolls on request. We will give you full allergen information for every dish.

What’s the price?

Every booking is quoted individually, depending on numbers, menu, timings and travel. Tell us about your event for a quote.

Why choose a hog roast in Grain?

Compared with a barbecue, one roast feeds everyone at once, instead of food coming off the grill in batches. See our guide to hog roast or barbecue. For larger numbers, a hog roast is usually good value, because one whole roast feeds a lot of people. The menu, extras such as china and the serving time all affect the final price.

Why us?

  • Planned to your running order
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Staff to serve, so you don’t have to

A closer look at the menu

Roast pork

The hog roasts slowly for hours, so the meat is tender and juicy, and it is carved fresh as people come up.

Crackling

Good crackling needs time and heat, which is exactly what a slow hog roast gives it.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For bigger or more formal events, catering takes the pressure off.

What affects the price in Grain

The biggest factors are:

  • The date and time of year
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Whether you want china

Compare like for like: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

What to tell us

The more we know, the more accurate the quote. Please include:

  • Rough numbers
  • The date and time of the event
  • Allergies we should know about
  • Where the event is

The quickest way to get a price is to send us your date, venue and numbers. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Send us your details through our quote form.

Planning for dietary needs

With a bit of planning, dietary needs are easier to handle. Here are a few tips:

  • Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs

You won’t need to worry about the food on the day. We arrive hours ahead, set up, roast, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.

A second roast, lamb or chicken, gives people a choice, priced in the quote.

What the cooking area needs

A good cooking spot makes the day run smoothly. Ideally:

  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • A level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Somewhere nearby to park our vehicle

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

How it works

Your timings come first. If things run late, a cooked roast can be kept hot for a while, so keep us posted on the day. Because the roast takes hours, daylight is worth planning: in Grain, sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 9:15pm in late June, while in December the light goes at about 3:50pm.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
  4. We carve and serve when you are ready to eat.
  5. We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.

Getting ready for the day

  • Check there’s a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
