Diets, allergies and alternatives

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Find out who does not eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Remember that stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance

Slow roasting needs attention, which is our job, not yours. You can get on with your event.

We also hire out the roaster for DIY hog roasts.

Planners, venues and businesses

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so check before you book. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

What we serve, dish by dish

Crackling

Good crackling needs time and heat, which is exactly what a slow hog roast gives it.

Rotisserie chicken

Rotisserie chicken is a simple, popular alternative to pork, turned until the skin is golden.

Choosing a hog roast caterer

Full catering or machine hire?

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll confirm what comes with it when you ask.

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

A hog roast compared with other options

Catered or DIY? With catering we roast, carve and serve; with hire you do the cooking. Most hosts choose catering for anything bigger than a family party. The main driver is numbers: the price per head typically falls as numbers rise, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

What you get with us

  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow

How it works

We roast under cover, so a shower won’t spoil the food. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. Late September evenings in Hailsham lose the light at about 7:00pm, and in December it is nearer 3:55pm. For anything after that, plan lights for the serving area.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.
