Hog roast hire in Haylands

How our hog roast hire works in Haylands

Hiring a hog roast means a whole hog cooked slowly on site, for hours, under a gazebo outside. When it’s ready, our chef carves it and our staff serve it in soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. Typical bookings include birthdays and anniversaries and summer garden parties, serving coleslaw, crackling and rotisserie chicken.

In a smaller place like Haylands, a hog roast in the garden is often the simplest option: space to cook, no venue hire and no cooking for you. Tell us about access down the drive or side of the house. Plates come as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

How it works

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. Late September evenings in Haylands lose the light at about 7:10pm, and in December it is nearer 4:00pm. For anything after that, plan lights for the serving area.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

How to prepare

  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

Hog roast hire around Haylands

Haylands is about 1 mile south-west of Ryde, in the Isle of Wight. We cover Haylands and its neighbours for events. We cater all 125 towns and villages across the Isle of Wight. We cater events right across the region, from Haylands to Southampton (about 17 miles away).

If you’re gathering after a service at a church like Church of St. Michael and All Angels, a nearby hall or garden suits a hog roast. For anyone arriving by rail, Ryde St Johns Road station is about 0.9 miles away. The coast is within about 2 miles of Haylands, and sea breezes can be strong. We plan a sheltered cooking spot on windy days.

  • Timed around your day

Read our prices page and our hog roast cost guide.

Should I cook it myself?

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

FAQs for Haylands

We are gathering after a service at Church of St. Michael and All Angels: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is usually served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

What about windy coastal sites?

Yes. We roast under cover and choose a sheltered spot where we can.

Do we need our own staff?

We carve and serve for you, then clear the serving area afterwards.

Can you cater in Haylands?

Yes. We cater across London and the South East, including Haylands and the Isle of Wight. Send us the address for a quote.

What happens in bad weather?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Do you serve the crackling?

Yes, the crackling is shared out as we carve.

Do you travel across the Isle of Wight?

All of the Isle of Wight is in our area. Tell us the venue and we’ll quote.

What if things run late?

We work back from when you want to eat, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

For planners, venues and organisers

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

If the event is on someone else’s land, the landowner needs to agree to cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

About the food

Crackling

Crackling is what people queue for: golden, crunchy and salty, straight off the hog.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Some guests will be vegetarian, so halloumi and vegetable skewers make sure they’re not left with just salad.

Prices and what affects them

Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Numbers
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Travel to Haylands
  • Whether you want china

What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

Details that help

When you contact us, it helps to include:

  • Any venue rules
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Your date and serving time
  • Any dietary needs or allergies

Every event is quoted on its own, because numbers, menu, serving time and travel vary. Ask us for a quote for your event: fill in our quote form.

Before you choose a spot

Planning the cooking spot is the key. A quick checklist:

  • Any venue rules sorted in advance
  • Parking near the spot
  • A level patch of lawn, patio or hardstanding

Haylands is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we will plan the journey.

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before booking.
