A hog roast near Margate

Hog roast hire in Margate, slow-roasted on site

Slow-roasted pork carved to order: that’s what you get when you book a hog roast in Margate. The classic roll comes with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling, and you can add sides and other meats. Popular choices include new potatoes, coleslaw and spit-roast lamb, and we’re regularly asked to cater christmas fairs and milestone birthdays.

In Margate, the roaster usually goes in a back garden, a club or hall car park, or the grounds of a hired venue. All of them can work, given level ground with clearance overhead. You’ll know what’s included before booking: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates, with no surprises on the day.

Questions from Margate

What about windy coastal sites?

Yes. We roast under cover and choose a sheltered spot where we can.

What’s the nearest station to Margate?

Margate station, about 0.6 miles north-west of the centre.

Can we choose catered or DIY?

Both are available: we can cater fully or hire out the machine. Catering is the most popular choice.

Can you work around our timings?

We’ll be as flexible as we can. Give us a contact on the day and we’ll fit around changes.

Can you cater for vegetarians?

The menu has lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options. We don’t provide halal meat.

Is all of Kent covered?

All of Kent is in our area. Tell us the venue for a quote.

When do you start roasting?

Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, which is why we arrive hours ahead. We work back from your serving time.

Is crackling included?

Yes, the crackling is shared out as we carve.

The process

Here’s how the day normally runs: we arrive, set up under cover and start roasting, the pork cooks slowly for hours, and our chef carves it when you’re ready. Because the roast takes hours, daylight is worth planning: around Margate, it stays light until about 9:15pm at midsummer, while in December the light goes at about 3:50pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. We roast slowly on site, then carve for your guests.
  5. We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Next to a formal plated meal, a hog roast needs no kitchen and fewer staff, which often makes it better value. Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Why book with us

  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • Planned to your running order
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Fresh carving at the serving station

The menu, dish by dish

Crackling

Good crackling needs time and heat, and a whole hog roasted slowly gets it just right.

Rotisserie chicken

For guests who don’t eat pork, rotisserie chicken is the easy answer, and children normally like it too.

Full catering or machine hire?

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a whole hog takes hours, and it needs to be cooked through safely. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.
