How we price a hog roast

Your quote depends on:

  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • The journey to the venue
  • The date and time of year
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken

Midweek and quieter months are frequently easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Ask us and we’ll suggest the best fit for your budget.

What we need to know

For a quick, accurate price, tell us:

  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Roughly how many people
  • Where the event is
  • A picture of the cooking area

Every event is quoted on its own, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Ask us for a quote for your event: fill in our quote form.

Hog roast hire in Mile End, carved to order

Hiring a hog roast means a whole hog cooked slowly on site, for hours, under a gazebo outside. Then our chef carves it and the team serves it in rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. We are often asked to cater parties at home and christmas fairs, with halloumi skewers, rotisserie chicken and spit-roast lamb.

From a family garden to an office courtyard, bookings in Mile End come in all shapes. Tell us how we get the equipment in. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we will give you the allergen information for every dish.

Allergies and dietary needs

You will get allergen information for everything we serve. To help:

  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option

You will not need to worry about the food on the day. We arrive hours ahead, set up, roast, carve and serve, then clear up.

Salads, coleslaw and potatoes make it a full meal.

Organising for someone else?

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We will keep you both updated.

Catered or do it yourself?

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

Planning the cooking spot

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, so a few things are worth checking:

  • Somewhere nearby to park our vehicle
  • A way to wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Cover for your guests in bad weather

Mile End is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access can be tight: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

How it works

Rain does not stop the roast, because we cook under cover. Your guests will still want somewhere dry to eat, such as a marquee, hall or barn. Light matters for a long roast: in Mile End, sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, but by late December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. You get an availability check and a clear quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. We roast slowly on site, then carve for your guests.
  5. We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

How to prepare

  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Send final numbers in good time
  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster

Common questions in Mile End

What’s the nearest station to Mile End?

The closest is Limehouse station, roughly 0.9 miles away.

Could you cook in Mile End Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, generally the council, and many parks don’t allow cooking. Ask them first, and tell us what they say.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

We can supply gluten-free rolls on request. We’ll give you full allergen information for every dish.

What happens after service?

We clear the serving area and pack away, and leave the area tidy.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

Outside, always. Serving indoors is generally fine if the venue is happy.

Is our garden big enough?

Often, yes, if there’s a level, open spot away from the house and trees, and a way to wheel the equipment through. Send us a photo.

Is hog roast hire catered or DIY?

Either: we can cater fully or hire out the machine. Most people choose catering.

When do you start roasting?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We plan the timings from when you want to eat.

Compared with food vans, a hog roast serves plenty of people from one roast, with no waiting for individual orders to cook. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, along with distance and how easy the site is. There’s no one-size price, which is why each one gets its own quote.
