Hog roast hire in Greater London: what to expect

Our hog roast hire is fully catered: we roast, our chef carves and our staff serve. If you’d rather do it yourself, we also hire out the machine. We are often asked to cater summer garden parties and weddings, day or evening, with rotisserie chicken, salads and coleslaw.

The secret is time: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin crisps into crackling. It rests for a short while before carving.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.

A hog roast across Greater London: what to know

There are 157 towns and 87 villages and hamlets in Greater London, so the setting can be anything from London, City of Westminster and Marylebone to a quiet hamlet: a level outdoor spot, a way in and a plan. Parts of Greater London are within a few miles of the Kent Downs National Landscape, so check venue rules on outside caterers for countryside events.

London: If you’re gathering after a service at a church like St George the Martyr, a nearby hall or garden suits a hog roast. If you had Newington Gardens in mind, ask the council or landowner first: we cannot simply set up a roaster in a public park. Around midsummer it stays light in London until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is generally in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

What the cooking area needs

The cooking area is the main thing to plan. A quick checklist:

  • Vehicle access close to the cooking area
  • Access for our equipment, without steps
  • Any venue rules sorted in advance

Prices and what affects them

We don’t use a fixed price list, because every event is different. What matters most:

  • Which meats and sides you choose
  • Plates or china
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays

Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. Every booking is different, so we quote each one individually.

What to tell us

To check the date and the space, tell us:

  • Which meats and sides you’d like
  • The address or postcode
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Anything the venue has asked for

The quickest way to get a price is to send us your date, venue and numbers. A picture of the cooking area helps. Send us your details through our quote form.

About the food

Stuffing and apple sauce

A spoonful of apple sauce and a slice of stuffing make the roll.

Roast pork

Hours of slow roasting make the pork soft and full of flavour, and our chef carves it to order.

Looking after everyone

We give full allergen information for every dish. To make the most of it:

  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Remember that stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • We don’t offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it is needed

Let us know if the day runs late: a cooked roast can be held for a while before carving.

China crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Full catering or machine hire?

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Greater London questions

What happens in bad weather?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

What about coeliacs?

We can provide gluten-free rolls if you ask. Ask for the allergen list, as stuffing normally contains gluten.

Is mains power needed?

Not to cook, because the roaster is gas-fired. Let us know what’s on site.

How does hog roast hire work?

We bring the roaster, roast the hog on site for hours, then our chef carves it and our staff serve, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling.

Do you come to Greater London?

Yes, Greater London is in our area. Send us the address and we will check the date.

What meats can we have?

It is built around the hog, but lamb and chicken can be added.

Is our garden big enough?

Access and clearance matter more than size. Tell us about the garden and we will advise.
