Slow-roasted pork in Royal Docks

How our hog roast hire works in Royal Docks

Booking a hog roast means you do not have to cook. We arrive hours before you eat, set up under cover and roast slowly, then carve and serve at the time you choose. We serve spit-roast lamb, new potatoes and coleslaw, and we’re regularly asked to cater Fêtes, fairs and shows and work summer parties.

In a London neighbourhood like Royal Docks, the big question is getting the roaster to the cooking spot. If there’s no side passage, a rear gate, yard or communal space may work, and send us a picture. Your quote spells out what’s included: the date, the serving time, the menu and the plates, with no surprises on the day.

Full catering or machine hire?

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is usually easier.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with food vans, a hog roast serves plenty of people from one roast, with no waiting for individual orders to cook. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

What you get with us

  • An itemised quote
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • We bring everything to cook and serve

Read how we price or what a hog roast costs.

Planning for dietary needs

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance

Expect us to be on site for much of the day, because the roast starts hours before you eat.

The menu, dish by dish

Spit-roast lamb

With lamb as well, there are two roasts to choose from, which works well for larger groups.

Roast pork

Slow-roasted pork is the heart of the menu: carved in front of you, a mix of shoulder and leg, straight from the roaster.

Step by step

Here’s how the day generally runs: we arrive, set up under cover and start roasting, the pork cooks slowly for hours, and our chef carves it when you’re ready. Planning an evening hog roast in Royal Docks? Sunset is around 8:50pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September; once it is dark, we need light at the carving station.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
  3. We agree timings and where the roaster goes.
  4. On the day we roast for hours, then carve to order.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we pack away.

Preparing for the day

  • Choose a level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Let us know about tight access

Getting a price

Royal Docks questions

Can you cater after a service at Church of the Ascension?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Food is usually served at the reception venue rather than the church. Send us the address.

Which station is closest to Royal Docks?

The closest is Custom House station, roughly 0.7 miles away.

How do we prepare?

A clear, level cooking spot, a route to wheel the equipment in and a contact for the day. We’ll bring the rest.

Do we need our own staff?

No need for your own staff: our chef carves and our team serves and clears.

What space does the roaster need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. Send us a picture if you’re unsure.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. We do not offer halal meat.

Can you cook a hog roast in a small garden?

Access and clearance matter more than size. Tell us about the garden and we will advise.

What’s the price?

Every booking is quoted individually, based on numbers, menu, service time and distance. Tell us about your event for a quote.

How we price a hog roast

Each price is built from:

  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Plates or china

When comparing prices, compare the same things: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. The cheapest quote is not always the best value.

What to tell us

Here’s what we will ask:

  • Rough numbers
  • Any venue rules
  • A picture of the cooking area
  • Where the event is

Every event is quoted on its own, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Tell us about your event for a quote: send us your details through our quote form.

Space, access and the venue

The cooking area is the main thing to plan. Check these:

  • Permission from the venue or landowner
  • Somewhere nearby to park our vehicle
  • A sheltered place for people to eat if it rains

Royal Docks is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access can be tight: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think before booking.
