Slow-roasted pork in Friday Hill

Hog roast hire for your event in Friday Hill

It is a simple format that suits most crowds: pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a roll, plus lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan choices if you want them. We serve new potatoes, rotisserie chicken and salads, and typical bookings are for wakes and memorial gatherings and christmas fairs.

In a London neighbourhood like Friday Hill, the big question is getting the roaster to the cooking spot. If there’s no side passage, a rear gate, yard or communal space may work, and send us a photo. Our staff serve and clear, so nobody in your party has to serve or tidying up afterwards.

Catered or do it yourself?

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience, especially outdoors.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

What comes off the roaster

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Crunchy coleslaw suits roast pork, while salads and potatoes make a plated meal.

Spit-roast lamb

Spit-roast lamb is popular alongside the pork, especially for guests who do not eat pork.

What the cooking area needs

Planning the cooking spot is the key. Check these:

  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
  • A level patch of lawn, patio or hardstanding
  • A sheltered place for people to eat if it rains

As a London location, Friday Hill is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise before booking.

Prices and what affects them

Your quote depends on:

  • The number of people
  • Distance from us
  • Season and day of the week
  • Site access

Travel matters for the price: travel is included in your quote, with any London charges listed. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

Details that help

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what to include:

  • Where the event is
  • A photo of the cooking area
  • Your menu choices
  • Rules from the venue or landowner

Every event is quoted on its own, based on numbers, menu, timings and distance. Tell us about your event for a quote: send us your details through our quote form.

Working with your venue

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep everyone in the loop.

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Next to a buffet, hot roast pork carved in front of you is a different experience. A buffet can sit out all afternoon. UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. We quote every event individually, so you know exactly what you’re paying for.

What you get with us

  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • Fresh carving at the serving station
  • Halloumi skewers and a vegan option too
  • All the equipment comes with us

See our prices page and our hog roast cost guide.

How it works

We cook on a gas-fired roaster, so we don’t need mains power to cook; a nearby socket helps with lights if service runs into the evening. Because the roast takes hours, daylight is worth planning: in Friday Hill, sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, while in December the light goes at about 3:50pm.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.

Preparing for the day

  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain

Looking after everyone

Standard rolls and stuffing contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. A few more tips:

  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them

Slow roasting needs attention, and that’s what we’re there for. You can relax and enjoy the day.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
