Slow-roasted pork in Tooting

Hog roast hire in Tooting, slow-roasted on site

It is a simple format that suits most crowds: roast pork in a soft roll, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling, plus lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan choices if you want them. For Fêtes, fairs and shows and milestone birthdays, we’ll put together a menu of hog roast rolls, spit-roast lamb and salads for your guests.

In Tooting, the roaster might go in a garden, a church car park or a works yard. Let us know about the route in, including steps, narrow gates and parking for our vehicle. We bring the people to serve and clear up, so you’re not left handing out rolls or tidying up afterwards.

How the day works

The secret is time: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin turns into crackling. Then it rests briefly before our chef carves. By late September, sunset in Tooting is around 7:05pm, and in December it’s nearer 3:55pm. After dark, a lit path to the food makes a difference.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. On the day we arrive hours before serving and start the roast under cover.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Getting ready for the day

  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage

The menu, dish by dish

Rotisserie chicken

For guests who do not eat pork, rotisserie chicken is the easy answer, and children usually like it too.

Stuffing and apple sauce

A spoonful of apple sauce and a slice of stuffing turn a pork roll into a hog roast roll.

What the cooking area needs

Before the day, it helps to think about where the roaster will go. We look for:

  • Cover for your guests in bad weather
  • A way to wheel the roaster to the spot
  • Nothing overhead that could catch the heat

As a London location, Tooting is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: let us know how we reach the cooking spot and where we can park.

Not sure about the cooking spot? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly before booking.

A hog roast compared with other options

Full catering or machine hire? Catering means we do everything; DIY hire means you roast and carve yourself. For bigger events, catering is generally the easier choice. A hog roast is often good value for a crowd, because one whole roast feeds plenty of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

Planners, venues and businesses

Booking for a club or group? A single point of contact keeps things simple, particularly when timings shift.

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers.

Full catering or machine hire?

You could roast a hog yourself, but it is a long day’s work, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

Tell us about dietary needs early and we’ll help. Some ideas:

  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option

If timings shift, tell us: we can hold the roast for a while.

China crockery is available on request, quoted separately.
