Hog roast hire for Bakers Arms

Hog roast hire for your event in Bakers Arms

There is nothing quite like the smell of a hog roast drifting across a garden or field. We roast slowly on site in Bakers Arms, then carve the pork into rolls with all the trimmings. We are frequently asked to cater village fêtes and school fairs and sports clubs and societies, with rotisserie chicken, halloumi skewers and salads.

In a London neighbourhood like Bakers Arms, the big question is getting the roaster to the cooking spot. Many terraced houses have no side access, so tell us whether there is a rear gate, a front garden or a yard we can use, and send us a picture. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

The process

The secret is time: the meat cooks gently until it is tender while the skin crisps into crackling. It rests for a short while before carving. Because the roast takes hours, daylight is worth planning: in Bakers Arms, sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, while in December the light goes at about 3:50pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. We roast slowly on site, then carve for your guests.
  5. We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

Before we arrive

  • Have a level outdoor spot ready
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat

What we serve, dish by dish

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Rolls or plates? Rolls are quicker; plates suit a sit-down meal, with gluten-free rolls on request.

Spit-roast lamb

Spit-roast lamb cooks slowly like the hog, carved to order at the serving station, often with mint sauce.

Bakers Arms: your questions answered

Could you cook in Leyton Jubilee Park?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

Can you cater after a service at St Stephen's?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is generally served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you will gather.

What do people get?

Roast pork carved into soft rolls with sage and onion stuffing, apple sauce and crackling. You can add lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options, salads, coleslaw and potatoes.

How far ahead should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But it is always worth asking: send us your details through our quote form.

Can you do gluten-free?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we’ll bring them. We’ll give you full allergen information for every dish.

Is there a non-pork option?

There are lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan options: spit-roast lamb, rotisserie chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan burger or sausage. Please note we don’t offer halal meat.

Do we need to provide electricity?

The roaster runs on gas, so we do not need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

Do you do DIY hog roast hire?

Yes, we hire out the hog roast machine. We will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Organising for someone else?

If you’re booking for a workplace, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We work to the site’s rules.

Some venues add a fee for outside caterers, so it is worth asking first. We’ll work with the venue on access and the cooking spot.

Looking after everyone

You will get allergen information for everything we serve. To make the most of it:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen information
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option

We bring the cover, the carving table and the serving kit, so all you need is the space.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

Why choose a hog roast in Bakers Arms?

Next to a formal plated meal, a hog roast does not need a kitchen, which normally keeps the cost down. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. Every booking is different, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Why us?

  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • An itemised quote
  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • Planned to your running order
