A hog roast near Islington

Before you choose a spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • A sheltered place for people to eat if it rains
  • A level, open spot outdoors for the roaster
  • Permission from the venue or landowner

As a London location, Islington is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.

About our hog roast hire in Islington

With hog roast hire, the cooking happens at your event, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp when it is served. Add lamb, chicken or vegetarian options if you like. Popular choices include halloumi skewers, salads and new potatoes, and we are often booked for christmas fairs and parties at home.

In Islington, the roaster might go in a garden, a church car park or a works yard. Let us know about the route in, including steps, narrow gates and parking for our vehicle. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.

Planners, venues and businesses

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers.

If you’re planning an event on someone’s behalf, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We’ll keep everyone in the loop.

Prices and what affects them

Each booking is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • The number of people
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Plates or china
  • Time on site

For larger numbers, a hog roast is usually good value, because one whole roast feeds a lot of people. Extras, china and longer service add to it.

What we need to know

When you contact us, it helps to include:

  • Rough numbers
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • The address or postcode
  • What the outdoor space is like

When you’re weighing up caterers, ask each one exactly what’s included. We spell it out in ours. For a quote, fill in our quote form.

About the food

Roast pork

We carve as we serve, so it stays hot and juicy.

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Salads, new potatoes, coleslaw and roast or jacket potatoes turn rolls into a full meal, especially at a sit-down event.

A hog roast compared with other options

Next to a formal plated meal, a hog roast needs no kitchen and fewer staff, which normally keeps the cost down. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. A long, slow roast means an early start, which is built into the price.

What you get with us

  • Fresh carving at the serving station
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it

Islington: your questions answered

Which station is closest to Islington?

Essex Road station, in Islington itself.

Could you cook in Barnard Park?

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Check with them first.

Will there be enough to go round?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we’ll talk it through when we quote.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

We can supply gluten-free rolls on request. You’ll get allergen details for everything.

What if things run late?

We will be as flexible as we can. Give us a contact on the day and we will adjust.

When should we book?

Popular dates go early. But it is always worth asking: fill in our quote form.

Do you cover Islington?

We do. Tell us the venue or postcode and we will confirm availability.

Is crockery included?

We bring plates as standard. China crockery is available on request and quoted separately.

Catered or do it yourself?

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Bringing a hog roast to Islington

Islington is about 3 miles north-east of City of Westminster, in Greater London. We bring a hog roast to events anywhere in Islington, as long as there’s an outdoor spot to cook. We cater all 764 towns and villages in Greater London, from the larger towns to small villages.

Churches such as St Mary's Church rarely have room for a roaster, but a hall or home close by generally does. School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as Islington Proprietary School, can book a hog roast stall.

We cater events across the N1, N7, NW1 and EC1V postcode area. Local streets include Gibson Square, Old Royal Free Square and Cloudesley Square; an event on any of them works well with outdoor space and a way in. With the B515 and A5203 close by, Islington is simple for us to get to for your event. If your venue is just outside Islington, we also cover Pentonville (1 mile south), Angel (1 mile south), Barnsbury (1 mile north-west), Clerkenwell (1 mile south) and Lower Holloway (1 mile north-west). Further out, we also cater in London (3 miles south), City of Westminster (3 miles south-west), Kensington (5 miles south-west), Walthamstow (5 miles north-east), Hampstead (3 miles west) and Ruislip (13 miles west).

A little further out are Brunswick Centre (1.3 miles south-west) and Queer Britain (0.8 miles west). Green spaces nearby include Barnsbury Wood and Ludgate Hill.

  • Local schools include St Mary's CofE Primary School (under half a mile east) and Islington Green School (under half a mile south-east)
  • Local pubs include The King's Head Public House (within half a mile east)
  • Other local spots include Metropolitan Borough of Islington (within half a mile north-east) and Pilsudski Institute of London (1.4 miles south-west)

Diets, allergies and alternatives

We give full allergen information for every dish. To help:

  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages

Name someone to meet us, ideally not the host, so you can enjoy yourself.

A second roast, lamb or chicken, gives people a choice.

The process

A hog roast is always cooked outside, under a gazebo on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We agree exactly where before the day. Because the roast takes hours, daylight is worth planning: in Islington, sunset is around 8:50pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, while in December the light goes at about 3:55pm.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We arrive early, set up under cover and start roasting.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We clear up and go.

Before we arrive

  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps
  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Name a contact for the day
