Should I cook it myself?

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

What we serve, dish by dish

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

Halloumi and vegetable skewers are the vegetarian choice: grilled halloumi with vegetables.

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

A hog roast roll is designed to be eaten in the hand. We can bring gluten-free rolls if you ask.

What happens on the day

We cook on a gas-fired roaster, so we do not need mains power to cook. Around midsummer it stays light in Notting Dale until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is typically in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check availability and the space for the roaster and send a clear quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
  4. We carve and serve when you’re ready to eat.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Gather dietary requirements early
  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches

Booking for a club or group? One clear contact makes everything easier, especially on the day.

Marquee suppliers normally set distances for cooking equipment, so let them know about the roaster. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

Full catering or machine hire? With catering we roast, carve and serve; with hire you do the cooking. For bigger events, catering is typically the easier choice. Distance is part of the price: travel is included in your quote. Tell us the exact address so the quote is accurate.

Either: fully catered, where we roast, carve and serve, or DIY machine hire. Catering is the most popular choice.

Looking after everyone

Tell us about dietary needs early and we will help. Some ideas:

  • Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance
  • Remember that stuffing generally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly
  • We don’t offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it is needed

We will be with you for a good part of the day, since slow roasting starts early.

Sides turn a roll into a proper meal, and they’re listed in your quote.
