Slow-roasted pork in Dulwich

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a cold buffet, a hog roast is hot, freshly carved and feels like an occasion. Buffets can sit out for hours. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we will suggest what works.

Why book our hog roast in Dulwich

  • Carved by our chef in front of your guests
  • Cooked on the day, low and slow
  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it

Hog roast hire in Dulwich, carved to order

A hog roast is one of the simplest ways to feed a crowd in Dulwich: one roast, slow-cooked for hours, carved in front of everyone. Everything comes with us, and we serve and tidy up afterwards. On the menu are coleslaw, halloumi skewers and spit-roast lamb, and we are often booked for clubhouse events and staff days and open days.

In a London neighbourhood like Dulwich, the big question is getting the roaster to the cooking spot. Many terraced houses have no side access, so tell us whether there’s a rear gate, a front garden or a yard we can use, and a photo helps us check. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we will tell you exactly what’s in each dish.

What happens on the day

When we arrive, we set up the roaster on the agreed spot, put the cover up and start the roast. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, timed so it’s ready when you want to eat. Around midsummer it stays light in Dulwich until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is typically in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. We carve and serve when you are ready to eat.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

Getting ready for the day

Planning for dietary needs

Rolls and stuffing generally contain gluten, and gluten-free rolls are available on request. Other tips:

  • We don’t offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it is needed
  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option

The roaster needs looking after for hours, and that is what we are there for. You can get on with your event.

We can supply china instead of standard plates, quoted separately.

Planners, venues and businesses

Salads, potatoes and coleslaw

Crunchy coleslaw suits roast pork, while salads and potatoes make a plated meal.

Crackling

Good crackling needs time and heat, which is exactly what a slow hog roast gives it.

Dulwich questions

What if our house in Dulwich has no side access?

Often, if there’s a rear gate, a front garden or a yard we can use. Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.

Which station is closest to Dulwich?

The closest is West Dulwich station, roughly 0.7 miles away.

What about guests who don’t eat pork?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. We do not provide halal meat.

Can you roast in the rain?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower does not stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Will there be enough to go round?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we’ll confirm everything in writing.

Do you offer gluten-free rolls?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we will bring them. We will give you full allergen information for every dish.

Where does the hog roast go?

A flat, open spot outside, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. Send us a picture if you’re unsure.

What do you need from us on the day?

Only the space and a contact number. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

Prices and what affects them

There’s no fixed price list, because every event is different. What matters most:

  • Whether you want china
  • The number of people
  • The menu and extras such as lamb or chicken
  • How long the roast and service take

The main driver is numbers: the price per head normally falls as numbers rise, since much of the cost is fixed.
