A hog roast near Twickenham

Hog roast hire in Twickenham, slow-roasted on site

It is a simple format that suits most crowds: roast pork in a soft roll, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling, and alternatives for anyone who does not eat pork. We serve hog roast rolls, new potatoes and halloumi skewers, and we’re often booked for Fêtes, fairs and shows and clubhouse events.

Gardens in Twickenham tend to be compact, with neighbours on both sides, so we look for a spot well away from fences, sheds and windows. A word with the neighbours before a long roast is always a good idea. We bring plates as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Space, access and the venue

The roaster needs space, cover and a safe distance from anything that could catch the heat. Things to check:

  • Permission from the venue or landowner
  • Flat outdoor ground for the roaster and a gazebo
  • A marquee, hall or barn as a wet-weather plan

As a London location, Twickenham is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

What affects the price in Twickenham

We work out each quote from:

  • Plates or china
  • The date and time of year
  • Time on site
  • Numbers

Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so we list each one in the quote. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Getting an accurate quote

When you enquire, it helps to include:

  • Your menu choices
  • The venue or postcode
  • An estimate of numbers
  • Anything the venue has asked for

When you’re weighing up caterers, ask each one exactly what’s included. We spell it out in ours. To get yours, fill in our quote form.

The menu, dish by dish

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

For vegans, there’s a vegan burger or sausage in a roll, so everyone has something hot.

Crackling

Crackling takes hours to get right, and a whole hog roasted slowly gets it just right.

Catered or do it yourself?

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

We also hire out the hog roast machine for confident cooks. You cook and carve it yourself; we will confirm what comes with it when you ask.

Your questions about a hog roast in Twickenham

Can you get a hog roast into a London garden in Twickenham?

It depends on access: a rear gate or yard normally works. Tell us about steps, gates and parking and we will advise.

Can you cater after a service at Salvation Army?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Food is usually served at the reception venue rather than the church. Tell us where you’ll gather.

How much room do you need?

Enough level ground outdoors for the roaster and a serving table under cover, plus a step-free route to wheel the equipment in. A picture helps.

When do you start roasting?

A whole hog roasts for several hours, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We plan the timings from when you want to eat.

Can we choose catered or DIY?

We offer full catering and DIY machine hire. Your quote will set out what’s included.

What’s included?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Sides and extra meats are listed in your quote.

What about coeliacs?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Stuffing usually contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

How do you work out quantities?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we will talk it through when we quote.

How the day works

Slow roasting is the whole point: hours of gentle heat make the pork soft and juicy while the skin crisps into crackling. It rests for a short while before carving. Light matters for a long roast: in Twickenham, sunset is around 8:55pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, while in December the light goes at about 3:55pm.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check availability and the space for the roaster and send a clear quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
  4. We carve and serve when you’re ready to eat.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Before we arrive

  • Make sure the cooking area is away from walls, tents and trees
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Ask about allergies and dietary needs beforehand

Allergies and dietary needs

Rolls and stuffing typically contain gluten, so ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them. Other tips:

  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen information
  • Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance
  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages

You will not need to worry about the food on the day. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, then clear up.

Prefer to cook yourself? Ask about DIY machine hire.

Working with your venue

Event organisers frequently ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Let us know what your event requires and we’ll tell you what we can send.

Venues frequently have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and pass on anything they need from us.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a cold buffet, hot roast pork carved in front of you is a different experience. A buffet can sit out all afternoon. The main driver is numbers: bigger groups normally cost less per head, since much of the cost is fixed.

Why book with us
