Hog roast hire for Oval

Hog roast hire for your event in Oval

A hog roast is one of the simplest ways to feed a crowd in Oval: one roast, slow-cooked for hours, carved in front of everyone. We bring the roaster, the cover and the serving kit, and our staff serve and clear. Typical bookings include Fêtes, fairs and shows and wedding breakfasts and evening food, serving hog roast rolls, crackling and halloumi skewers.

Around Oval, most London bookings are in back gardens, yards, school grounds and car parks. Many terraced houses have no side access, so tell us whether there is a rear gate, a front garden or a yard we can use, and send us a picture. Plates come as standard, and china crockery is available on request, quoted separately.

Diets, allergies and alternatives

A little planning helps everyone eat safely. Here are a few tips:

  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Put the menu on the invitation

Expect us to be on site for much of the day, since slow roasting starts early.

Sides turn a roll into a proper meal, and they’re listed in your quote.

How the day works

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, with the sides served alongside. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. Evenings in Oval stay light until about 9:20pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:05pm; once it is dark, we need light at the carving station.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and address.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

Getting ready for the day

  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Gather dietary requirements early

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Compared with a plated meal, a hog roast needs no kitchen and fewer staff, which typically keeps the cost down. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so each one is itemised. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

Why Oval hosts choose us

  • All the equipment comes with us
  • Roasted on site, slowly, for hours
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • A choice of salads and potatoes

Full catering or machine hire?

You could go for a cold buffet, but hot, freshly carved roast pork is a different experience.

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Prices and what affects them

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Crockery choices
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Travel to Oval
  • How many people are eating

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. There is no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

What to tell us

For a quick, accurate price, tell us:

  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a photo
  • An estimate of numbers
  • The venue or postcode
  • Dietary requirements

Every event is quoted on its own, because numbers, menu, serving time and travel vary. Tell us about your event for a quote: fill in our quote form.

Where the roaster can go in Oval

A good cooking spot makes the day run smoothly. Ideally:

  • Flat outdoor ground for the roaster and a gazebo
  • A safe distance from walls, tents and trees
  • A sheltered place for people to eat if it rains

As a London location, Oval is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.

Questions from Oval

What if our house in Oval has no side access?

It depends on access: a rear gate or yard usually works. Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly.

What’s the nearest station to Oval?

Oval has its own station: Vauxhall station.

What if things run late?

Because the roast takes hours, we plan from your serving time, and we can hold the roast for a while if the day runs behind.

How much room do you need?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We will confirm the space with your quote.

What about coeliacs?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Stuffing typically contains gluten, so check the allergen information.

How soon do you get booked up?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But do ask even at short notice: fill in our quote form.

Do we need a big space?

It depends on the space and access more than size. Describe the space and we will tell you honestly.

Is there a non-pork option?

We can add lamb or chicken, plus halloumi skewers for vegetarians and a vegan burger or sausage. Halal meat isn’t something we offer.
