Planning for dietary needs

You will get allergen information for everything we serve. To make the most of it:

  • Ask us to keep the vegetarian food separate and labelled
  • Find out who doesn’t eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We get there early, cook, carve and serve, then clear up.

Ask for gluten-free rolls for anyone who needs them.

Planners, venues and businesses

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep you both updated.

For venues and planners, we’re happy to work alongside your team, sharing timings and a site plan.

Catered or do it yourself?

Timing is the tricky part of roasting your own: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If that sounds stressful, choose the catered option.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Full catering or machine hire? Catering means we do everything; DIY hire means you roast and carve yourself. For bigger events, catering is usually the easier choice. Cost depends on numbers, menu choices and service time, plus travel and access. Every booking is different, so we quote each one individually.

How it works

Service is quick once we start carving: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. Planning an evening hog roast in Millbank? Sunset is around 8:50pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September; once it is dark, we need light at the carving station.

  1. First, you send us your date, address, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check availability and the space for the roaster and send a clear quote.
  3. On the day, we set up on the agreed spot and start roasting.
  4. We carve and serve when you are ready to eat.
  5. We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.

Before we arrive

  • Plan somewhere sheltered for people to eat if it rains

Only if the landowner, usually the council, allows it. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

London Victoria station, about 0.6 miles south-west of the centre.

When should we book?

Popular dates go early. But do ask even at short notice: fill in our quote form.

Do you serve the crackling?

Of course: slow roasting crisps the skin and we break it up for everyone.

Do we need our own staff?

Our chef carves and our staff serve, then clear the serving area afterwards.

Do we need a big space?

Often, yes, if there’s a level, open spot away from the house and trees, as long as we can get the equipment in. Send us a picture.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. Serving indoors is normally fine if the venue is happy.
