Your questions about a hog roast in Tokyngton

We’re gathering after a service at St Michael the Archangel: can you cater?

Yes, at a home, hall or venue nearby with an outdoor spot for the roaster. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Tell us where you will gather.

What’s the nearest station to Tokyngton?

Stonebridge Park station, in Tokyngton itself.

Can you cook a hog roast in a small garden?

Often, yes, if there is a level, open spot away from the house and trees, and a way to wheel the equipment through. A picture helps us check.

What happens in bad weather?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower doesn’t stop us. Your guests will want somewhere dry to eat.

Is mains power needed?

The roaster runs on gas, so we do not need mains power to cook. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

What’s the price?

Each event is priced on its own, depending on numbers, menu, timings and travel. Tell us about your event for a quote.

Can we have lamb or chicken?

The hog is the centrepiece, with lamb and chicken as extras.

Do you come to Tokyngton?

Yes, Tokyngton is in our area. Send us the address and we’ll confirm availability.

  • The space, cover and access they need

A hog roast compared with other options

Next to a street-food van, a hog roast serves a lot of people from one roast, with no waiting for individual orders to cook. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we’re on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Why book with us

  • Staff to serve, so you don’t have to
  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit

Take a look at our pricing and the cost guide.

Looking after everyone

Not everyone eats pork, so it’s worth adding an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen information
  • Count anyone who does not eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We arrive hours ahead, set up, roast, carve and serve, and our staff clear the serving area afterwards.

Gluten-free rolls are available on request.

Planners, venues and businesses

Marquee hire companies often have rules about cooking near their tents, so let them know about the roaster. The roaster stays a safe distance from the marquee.

Booking for a club or group? One clear contact makes everything easier, particularly when timings shift.

How we price a hog roast

The price comes down to:

  • Whether you want china
  • Season and day of the week
  • Access to the cooking area
  • Which meats and sides you choose

Distance is part of the price: travel is included in your quote. Tell us the exact address so the quote is accurate.

What we need to know

To get the best quote, send us:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Rough numbers
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • The venue or postcode

A quote from us sets out the menu, timings, staffing and what’s included, so it is easy to compare like for like. Send us your details through our quote form.

Before you choose a spot

The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Cover for your guests in bad weather
  • Any venue rules sorted in advance

As a London location, Tokyngton is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

What we serve

  • Crackling
  • Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)
  • Salads
  • Stuffing
  • Spit-roast lamb
  • New potatoes
  • Halloumi skewers (V)
  • Hog roast rolls
  • Rotisserie chicken
  • Apple sauce
  • Roast or jacket potatoes

Should I cook it myself?

You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you, especially outdoors.

Full catering or machine hire? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

How the day works

On the day, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. Around midsummer it stays light in Tokyngton until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. For winter events, dark by about 3:55pm, we need light by the roaster and the serving table.

  1. First, tell us about your event.
  2. We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day we roast for hours, then carve to order.
  5. We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

Preparing for the day
