How the day works

We work to your timings. If things run late, a cooked roast can be kept hot for a while, so keep us posted on the day. In Nag's Head, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. You tell us the date, the address, rough numbers and when you’d like to eat.
  2. You get a check on the date and the spot, and a quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. Our chef carves to order and our staff serve at the agreed time.
  5. Afterwards we clear up and leave the spot tidy.

Before we arrive

  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance

Planning help

What the cooking area needs

Most outdoor spaces can work with a little planning. Here’s what helps:

  • Any venue rules sorted in advance
  • A step-free route to wheel the equipment in
  • Somewhere nearby to park our vehicle

Nag's Head is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access can be tight: let us know how we reach the cooking spot and where we can park.

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before booking.

Full catering or machine hire?

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you.

Planning for dietary needs

Tell us about dietary needs early and we will help. Some ideas:

  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance

We bring the cover, the carving table and the serving kit, so all you need is the space.

A second roast, lamb or chicken, gives people a choice.

For planners, venues and organisers

If the event is on someone else’s land, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Sort that first.

If you’re organising for someone else, whether you’re a planner, a PA or on a committee, let us know who we will deal with on the day. We will keep everyone in the loop.

Prices and what affects them

The price comes down to:

  • Whether you want china
  • Time on site
  • Travel to Nag's Head
  • Season and day of the week

Compare like for like: the menu, sides, service time, staffing, crockery and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.

What we need to know

To get the best quote, send us:

  • Where the event is
  • The date and time of the event
  • Any venue rules
  • Allergies we should know about

The quickest way to get a price is to tell us the date, where the event is and roughly how many. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Use our quote form.

Nag's Head: your questions answered

What’s the nearest station to Nag's Head?

The closest is Drayton Park station, roughly 0.6 miles away.

Could you cook in Whittington Park?

Only if the landowner, normally the council, allows it. Ask them first.

Do you travel across Greater London?

We cover Greater London and the rest of London and the South East. Tell us the venue for a quote.

What if it rains?

We roast under cover, so the food isn’t affected. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

When should we book?

Summer Saturdays and December book up first. For other dates, a few weeks can be enough. Send your date and we will check.

Can you be flexible on serving time?

We work back from when you want to eat, and a cooked roast can be held for a while if things run late.

Is crockery included?

We supply plates as standard. China is available at an extra cost.

Do we need our own staff?

We carve and serve for you, and we clear up when service is finished.

Why choose a hog roast in Nag's Head?

Next to a barbecue, one roast feeds everyone at once, instead of food coming off the grill in batches. Our guide compares the two. The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. There’s no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

Why book with us

  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • Slow-roasted at your venue, not reheated

About the food

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Soft rolls hold the pork, stuffing and apple sauce together, perfect for eating on the move. Ask for gluten-free rolls if you need them.

Roast pork

Slow-roasted pork is the heart of the menu: carved thick or thin, as people like it, and served hot.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Freshly carved pork with crackling, stuffing and apple sauce
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
