How we price a hog roast

A few things make the biggest difference to the price:

  • Access to the cooking area
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Distance from us
  • Menu choices and extras

UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. We quote every event individually, with everything listed.

Details that help

These are the details we need:

  • Allergies we should know about
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Your date and serving time
  • A picture of the cooking area

Getting a quote is simple: date, place, numbers and serving time. We will reply with a clear price and what’s included. Send us your details through our quote form.

Hog roast hire in Perry Vale, carved to order

We provide a fully catered hog roast: roasting, carving and serving are all done for you. If you’d rather do it yourself, we also hire out the machine. On the menu are spit-roast lamb, coleslaw and new potatoes, and we’re regularly asked to cater festive gatherings and gatherings after a funeral.

Gardens in Perry Vale tend to be compact, with neighbours on both sides, so we look for a spot well away from fences, sheds and windows. A word with the neighbours before a long roast is always a good idea. We bring the people to serve and clear up, so nobody in your party has to serve or tidying up afterwards.

Allergies and dietary needs

Some guests won’t eat pork, so it’s worth adding an alternative. Helpful tips:

  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so check the allergen information
  • If anyone needs halal food, plan a separate option
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Collect allergies with your RSVPs

Expect us to be on site for much of the day, because the roast starts hours before you eat.

We can supply china instead of standard plates, quoted separately.

Space, access and the venue

Most outdoor spaces can work if a few things are right. Here’s what helps:

  • The venue’s agreement to a gas-fired roaster
  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • Vehicle access close to the cooking area

Perry Vale is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access can be tight: tell us about side or rear access, steps and parking for our vehicle.

Should I cook it myself?

Full catering or machine hire? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is generally easier.

The process

The roaster is gas-fired, so we don’t need mains power to cook; a nearby socket helps with lights if service runs into the evening. Around midsummer it stays light in Perry Vale until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check the date and the cooking area, then send a quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. We carve and serve when you are ready to eat.
  5. We pack everything away when everyone has eaten.

Preparing for the day

  • Confirm numbers ahead of the day
  • Check there is nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat
  • Tell us about narrow gates or side passages

To get a quote, just tell us the date, where the event is and roughly how many. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Send us your details through our quote form.

Crackling

Long, slow roasting turns the skin into crackling, and we break it up so everyone gets a piece.

Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)

A plant-based burger or sausage covers vegans, in a roll, with salad on the side.

A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a cold buffet, hot roast pork carved in front of you is a different experience. A buffet can sit out all afternoon. Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

What you get with us

  • Served at the time you choose
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • We bring everything to cook and serve
