How our hog roast hire works in Hatch End

We provide a fully catered hog roast: roasting, carving and serving are all done for you. If you’d rather do it yourself, we also hire out the machine. We’re often asked to cater wedding breakfasts and evening food and sports clubs and societies, with new potatoes, crackling and coleslaw.

In a London neighbourhood like Hatch End, the big question is getting the roaster to the cooking spot. Many terraced houses have no side access, so tell us whether there is a rear gate, a front garden or a yard we can use, and send us a picture. Tell us about dietary needs and allergies when you enquire, and we will give you the allergen information for every dish before booking.

Full catering or machine hire?

You could go for a cold buffet, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you, especially outdoors.

The hardest part of a DIY hog roast is timing: a big roast takes hours and must be cooked thoroughly. If you’d rather not worry about it, let us cook.

Planners, venues and businesses

For workplace bookings, check with facilities about gas equipment and vehicle access. We’ll fit in with site rules.

If you are organising for someone else, whether you are a planner, a PA or on a committee, let us know who we’ll deal with on the day. We will keep you both updated.

Step by step

When we arrive, we position the roaster under cover and get the hog cooking. From there it cooks low and slow for hours, worked back from your serving time. Evenings in Hatch End stay light until about 9:25pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:05pm; once it is dark, we need light at the carving station.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and serving time.
  2. We check availability and the space for the roaster and send a clear quote.
  3. We arrive well ahead, put the cover up and get the hog roasting.
  4. At serving time, the chef carves and the team serves.
  5. We clear the serving area and pack away.

Preparing for the day

  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Check there’s nothing overhead or close by that could catch the heat

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Compared with a plated meal, a hog roast doesn’t need a kitchen, which frequently makes it better value. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, and the quote reflects that.

Why Hatch End hosts choose us

  • Rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Salads, potatoes and coleslaw to go with it
  • Carved to order by a chef
  • No surprises: everything in writing

Planning for dietary needs

A hog roast is pork, so plan for anyone who doesn’t eat it. Here’s how to cover everyone:

  • We don’t offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it is needed
  • Tell guests what’s on the menu in advance
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans for the halloumi skewers and vegan option

We will be with you for a good part of the day, since slow roasting starts early.

We also hire out the roaster for DIY hog roasts.

Common questions in Hatch End

What if our house in Hatch End has no side access?

Often, if there’s a rear gate, a front garden or a yard we can use. Tell us about steps, gates and parking and we will advise.

Could you cook in Headstone Manor Recreation Ground?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, usually the council, and many parks don’t allow cooking. Check with them first, and tell us what they say.

Can we hire the machine and cook it ourselves?

DIY machine hire is available. We’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Do you serve the crackling?

It is: slow roasting crisps the skin and we break it up for everyone.

What comes with the hog roast?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Your quote lists any sides and extras.

Can the hog roast be cooked indoors?

It cooks outside, under a gazebo, on a level spot. The food can be carried in and served indoors where the venue allows.

What meats can we have?

The hog is the centrepiece, but lamb and chicken can be added.

How long does the roast need?

Hours rather than minutes. We’ll confirm our arrival time when we quote.
