Questions from Woodlands

Can you get a hog roast into a London garden in Woodlands?

Frequently, if there’s a rear gate, a front garden or a yard we can use. Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.

Which station is closest to Woodlands?

Isleworth station, in Woodlands itself.

Can you cook inside a hall or marquee?

The roaster always stays outside, under cover, at a safe distance from walls and tents. Serving inside is often possible, with the venue’s agreement.

What about coeliacs?

Gluten-free rolls are available on request. Ask for the allergen list, as stuffing normally contains gluten.

Is it just pork?

Pork is the classic, and you can add spit-roast lamb or rotisserie chicken. Vegetarian and vegan options are available too.

What’s included?

Pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a soft roll. Sides and extra meats are listed in your quote.

Is crackling included?

Yes, the crackling is shared out as we carve.

How do we prepare?

Just the agreed spot and a contact on the day. We bring the roaster, cover and serving kit.

How our hog roast hire works in Woodlands

In Woodlands, we cater birthdays, weddings, staff days and fêtes. The idea is always the same: a slow roast on site, carved fresh and served by our team. We’re often asked to cater summer garden parties and corporate events, with new potatoes, halloumi skewers and spit-roast lamb.

Around Woodlands, most London bookings are in back gardens, yards, school grounds and car parks. If there’s no side passage, a rear gate, yard or communal space may work, and send us a picture. Let us know about allergies and dietary needs in advance, and we will give you the allergen information for every dish before booking.

How it works

Serving is straightforward: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, with the sides served alongside. Afterwards we clear the serving area and pack away. Around midsummer it stays light in Woodlands until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so a summer evening hog roast is normally carved in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. The chef carves and the team fills rolls or plates.
  5. We pack away and leave you to it.

Preparing for the day

  • Measure the narrowest gate or passage
  • Plan a step-free way in for the equipment
  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches

Planning help

Organising for someone else?

Event organisers frequently ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Let us know what your event requires and we’ll confirm what we can provide.

Planning on behalf of a committee? A single point of contact keeps things simple, particularly when timings shift.

Catered or do it yourself?

Buying in a cold buffet is another option, but nothing beats hot pork and crackling carved in front of you.

If you’re confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we will explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Before you choose a spot

We need room to cook safely and under cover. Before booking, check:

  • Access for our equipment, without steps
  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • A level patch of lawn, patio or hardstanding

As a London location, Woodlands is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and access takes planning: let us know how we reach the cooking spot and where we can park.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

Allergies and dietary needs

You’ll get allergen information for everything we serve. To make the most of it:

  • Remember that stuffing generally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Count anyone who doesn’t eat pork, and order an alternative for them
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls if anyone needs them
  • We do not offer halal meat, so arrange that separately if it’s needed

Name someone to meet us, ideally not the host, so you can enjoy yourself.

A second roast, lamb or chicken, gives people a choice, priced in the quote.

A hog roast compared with other options

Next to a formal plated meal, a hog roast needs no kitchen and fewer staff, which frequently makes it better value. UK price guides vary widely: roughly £10 a head for a simple roll, rising past £20 with more included. Every event gets its own quote, with everything listed.

What you get with us

  • We bring everything to cook and serve
  • Served at the time you choose
  • A clear quote with everything listed
  • Choices for people who do not eat pork

The menu, dish by dish

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

For vegetarians, halloumi and vegetable skewers are cooked separately from the meat, a hot, filling option of their own.

Rotisserie chicken

For guests who don’t eat pork, rotisserie chicken is the easy answer, and children typically like it too.

Prices and what affects them

We work out each quote from:

  • Numbers
  • How long the roast and service take
  • Site access
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, plus travel and access. There is no one-size price, which is why each one gets its own quote.

Getting an accurate quote

Here’s what we will ask:

  • Roughly how many people
  • A picture of the cooking area
  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • Your menu choices

Planning ahead? Popular dates fill up early, especially summer Saturdays and December Fridays. Tell us your date and we’ll check it: use our quote form.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Vegetarian and vegan choices, plus lamb or chicken if you like
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
