A hog roast compared with other options

Compared with a cold buffet, a hog roast is hot, freshly carved and feels like an occasion. A buffet can sit out all afternoon. What you pay covers the meat, the chef and staff, and hours of roasting. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, which is built into the price.

Why Salford hosts choose us

  • All the equipment comes with us
  • A choice of salads and potatoes
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • A clear quote with everything listed

Read our pricing and our hog roast cost guide.

How it works

The roaster cooks outdoors, under a gazebo on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We’ll agree the spot with you beforehand. Light matters for a long roast: around Salford, it stays light until about 9:25pm at midsummer, but by late December it’s dark by about 3:50pm, so winter bookings need lighting from mid-afternoon.

  1. You share the when, where and how many.
  2. We look at the cooking area and send a price.
  3. We get the roaster going hours before you eat.
  4. Our chef carves and our staff serve.
  5. We clear up and go.

Planners, venues and businesses

For events on land you don’t own, such as a park or field, you will need the landowner’s permission for cooking and vehicles. Get that agreed before booking.

For workplace bookings, ask your facilities team about outside caterers and gas cooking. We work to the site’s rules.

Prices and what affects them

Here’s what affects the price:

  • Site access
  • Plates or china
  • Busy dates such as summer Saturdays
  • Time on site

Adding lamb, chicken, extra sides or china changes the price, so we list each one in the quote. Keeping it simple keeps it affordable.

Details that help

To get the best quote, tell us:

  • An estimate of numbers
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Where the event is
  • Which meats and sides you’d like

Send us the date, the address or MK17 postcode and rough numbers, along with your serving time. We will confirm availability and send a price. Send us your details through our quote form.

What we serve, dish by dish

Rolls and gluten-free rolls

Rolls or plates? Rolls are quicker; plates suit a sit-down meal, with gluten-free rolls on request.

Stuffing and apple sauce

Sage and onion stuffing and apple sauce are the classic partners, cutting through the richness of the pork.

Before you choose a spot

A hog roast cooks outdoors for hours, so the spot matters, and a little planning goes a long way:

  • Vehicle access close to the cooking area
  • Space away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches
  • A level patch of lawn, patio or hardstanding

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and the way in, and we will say what we think.

  • Spit-roast lamb
  • Vegan burger or sausage (Ve)
  • Roast or jacket potatoes
  • Halloumi skewers (V)

Allergies and dietary needs

Some guests won’t eat pork, so plan an alternative. A few pointers:

  • Give us numbers for vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Count anyone who does not eat pork, so we can bring lamb, chicken or vegetarian options
  • Put the menu on the invitation
  • Request gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests

Let us know if the day runs late: a cooked roast can be held for a while before carving.

Sides turn a roll into a proper meal.

Questions from Salford

How far is Salford from London?

Roughly 44 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Do you come out to small places like Salford?

No, we come to small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Do we need to provide electricity?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. Power can help with lighting after dark.

Is crockery included?

We bring plates as standard. If you’d like china, ask and we’ll add it to the quote.

How do you work out quantities?

We plan quantities from the numbers you give us, and we will talk it through when we quote.

How do we prepare?

Only the space and a contact number. Everything for roasting and serving comes with us.

Can we have lamb or chicken?

It’s built around the hog, with lamb and chicken as extras.

Can you cater in Salford?

Yes. We cater across London and the South East, Salford and the rest of Milton Keynes included. Tell us the venue and we will quote.

Should I cook it myself?

A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone has to stand at the grill all day. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.

Catered or DIY? Catered means we do everything: roasting, carving, serving and clearing. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

  • Cooked where you are, slowly, over several hours outdoors
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Served when you’re ready, and we tidy the serving area afterwards
