Looking after everyone

You’ll get allergen information for everything we serve. To make the most of it:

  • Tell us about vegetarians and vegans so we bring enough halloumi skewers and vegan burgers or sausages
  • Ask about allergies when you send invitations
  • Stuffing normally contains gluten, so ask for the allergen list
  • Label the vegetarian and vegan food clearly

We will be with you for a good part of the day, because the roast starts hours before you eat.

Hog roast hire for your event in Satmar

It’s a simple format that suits most crowds: pork, stuffing, apple sauce and crackling in a roll, plus lamb, chicken, vegetarian and vegan choices if you want them. For corporate events and garden parties and barbecues, we will put together a menu of coleslaw, rotisserie chicken and spit-roast lamb and more.

Somewhere as small as Satmar, a field, yard or garden is frequently the spot. Country lanes and long drives are fine if we know about them, and level, firm ground is the key. Our chef carves in front of your guests, so every roll gets hot pork and a piece of crackling, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

Your questions about a hog roast in Satmar

What about windy coastal sites?

Yes, of course. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Can you do a hog roast in East Cliff and Warren Country Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, generally the council, and many parks do not allow cooking. Ask them first.

Can you do gluten-free?

Ask for gluten-free rolls and we will bring them. We’ll give you full allergen information for every dish.

Where does the hog roast go?

Roughly the footprint of a gazebo or two, on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We’ll check it with you before booking.

When do you start roasting?

Several hours, depending on the size and the weather, so we arrive well before you want to eat. We work back from your serving time.

Will there be enough to go round?

Quantities are based on your numbers, and we’ll talk it through when we quote.

Do we need our own staff?

You do not need anyone else: our chef carves and our team serves and clears.

Is crockery included?

We supply plates as standard. You can upgrade to china if you prefer.

Is a hog roast right for your event?

Next to a barbecue, a hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone, instead of food coming off the grill in batches. Our guide compares the two. Weekday and off-season dates can be easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.

Why book with us

  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Choices for people who don’t eat pork
  • Staff to serve, so you do not have to
  • Sides to make it a full meal

See our prices page or the cost guide.

How it works

A hog roast is always cooked outside, under a gazebo on level ground, well clear of walls, tents and trees. We agree exactly where before the day. Around midsummer it stays light in Satmar until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:00pm, so summer evening service is typically in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:50pm, so the cooking and serving area needs lighting.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. We check the date and the cooking spot, then send a quote.
  3. Timings and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. We roast slowly on site, then carve for your guests.
  5. We serve, tidy up and leave the spot clean.

Planners, venues and businesses

Event organisers often ask caterers for paperwork such as a risk assessment. Tell us what you need and we will confirm what we can provide.

Some venues charge a fee if you bring in your own caterer, so it’s worth asking first. We’ll liaise with them on access and set-up.

How to compare hog roast caterers

Satmar: venues, access and local tips

Satmar is about 3 miles north-east of Folkestone, in Kent. Events in Satmar are part of our patch, as well as the surrounding area. We cater all 922 towns and villages across Kent, from the larger towns to small villages. You can also see our page for Canterbury, about 13 miles away.

A green space like East Cliff and Warren Country Park is tempting, but a gas-fired roaster there needs the landowner’s say-so, normally the council’s. Within reach of Satmar are historic houses such as Acrise Place (4.3 miles north-west). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on outside caterers and gas cooking early. The Kent Downs National Landscape is within about 6 miles of Satmar, and some venues there have rules about cooking and vehicles on site. Check your venue’s rules on outside caterers. The coast is within about 3 miles of Satmar, and coastal sites can be windy. We plan a sheltered cooking spot on windy days.

We cater events across the CT18 postcode area and the streets around it. If your venue is just outside Satmar, we also cover Capel-le-Ferne (1 mile south-west), West Hougham (1 mile north-east), Drellingore (1 mile north-west), Church Hougham (1 mile east) and South Alkham (2 miles north). Larger places within reach include Canterbury (13 miles north-west), Dover (4 miles north-east), Folkestone (3 miles south-west), Deal (10 miles north-east), Hythe (7 miles south-west) and Tower Hamlets (4 miles north-east).

Well-known places in the area include Folkestone Castle (2.8 miles west) and Royal Victoria Hospital (2.7 miles south-west). Within reach you’ll find Dover Western Heights and Sugar Loaf Hill.

Catered or do it yourself?

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

Some hosts try a barbecue instead, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. With a hog roast, one roast feeds everyone at once.

  • Roasted slowly at your venue, outdoors and under cover
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Served by our staff at the time you choose, then cleared away
