Diets, allergies and alternatives

Most people love a hog roast, but it is pork. Some ways to look after everyone:

  • Confirm final numbers a week or so before
  • Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
  • Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed
  • Pass numbers for vegetarians and vegans to us

We serve and clear without fuss, so the party carries on around us.

Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in evening photos; tell your venue or marquee supplier.

How it works

A hog roast is always cooked outside, on a level, open spot under cover, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We agree exactly where before the day. Golden-hour photos in Satmar at midsummer come around 9:15pm, which helps us time evening food around your photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:45pm, and in late September about 7:00pm.

  1. Send us the date, venue and guest numbers.
  2. We check the venue’s rules and the date, then quote.
  3. We agree timings with your venue coordinator.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon; our chef carves on cue.
  5. Our staff serve and clear, then we leave quietly.

Preparing for the day

  • Give us final numbers a week or so before
  • Think about shelter for your guests
  • Keep the spot clear of buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches

Stuffing and apple sauce

No hog roast roll is complete without sage and onion stuffing and apple sauce, balancing the rich, salty pork.

Halloumi and vegetable skewers (V)

For vegetarians, halloumi and vegetable skewers are cooked separately from the meat, so they get something hot and satisfying too.

A hog roast or other catering?

Compared with a three-course plated meal, a hog roast wedding breakfast is relaxed and usually costs less per head. It still feels like a feast. Most of the cost is the meat, the staff and the time on site. Slow roasting means we are on site for much of the day, and the quote reflects that.

What you get with us

  • Carved to order by a chef
  • Planned to your running order
  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • The classics: stuffing, apple sauce and crackling

Read how we price or the cost guide.

How we price a hog roast for your wedding

The price comes down to:

  • Numbers
  • How easy it is to reach the spot
  • The date and time of year
  • Distance from us

Travel matters for the price: we include travel in the quote. Give us the address so the quote is accurate.

What to tell us

To check the date and the space, tell us:

  • Roughly how many people
  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Any extras, such as lamb, chicken or china
  • Any dietary needs or allergies

Not sure how many to cater for? Give us your best estimate and we’ll quote on that, then confirm closer to the date. Fill in our quote form.

Should I cook it myself?

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With hire only, you do the cooking yourself.

A DIY hog roast suits a relaxed party where someone enjoys cooking. For weddings and bigger events, a catered roast is typically easier.
