Wedding hog roast in Alkham

How our wedding hog roast works in Alkham

Wedding timings shift, and a slow roast copes well: a cooked roast holds for a while, so a long speech will not ruin the food. On the menu are crackling, salads and carved roast pork, and typical bookings are for relaxed, low-key weddings and evening receptions.

There’s something special about a country wedding near Alkham, and slow-roasted pork carved for guests adds to it. Plan a firm route in, especially if it rains. The carving happens right in front of your guests, so the pork is hot and the crackling is crisp, and nothing sits in a hot cabinet.

Planning the cooking spot

Most gardens, car parks, yards and fields work if a few things are right. Here’s what we look for:

  • Light near the carving station after dark
  • Permission for outside catering
  • A safe distance from marquee walls, buildings and trees

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

DIY versus a catered hog roast

You could roast a hog yourself, but it’s a long day’s work, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.

Catered or DIY? With catering, our chef roasts, carves and serves, and our staff clear up. With DIY hire, you do the work and save on staffing.

How it works

Serving is straightforward: our chef carves and our staff fill the rolls or plates, and sides go out at the same time. When everyone has eaten, we clear up and leave the spot tidy. For a summer wedding in Alkham, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:00pm in late September, which means an evening hog roast is typically served in daylight in high summer. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:50pm.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and which meal you’d like.
  2. We check the venue and the cooking spot and send a price.
  3. We agree arrival, cooking spot and serving times with you and your venue.
  4. The hog roasts through the afternoon, and our chef carves on cue.
  5. Our staff clear the serving area and we leave quietly.

Before we arrive

  • Collect dietary needs and allergies in advance
  • Pick a flat, open area outside for cooking
  • Check there is a route to wheel the equipment in, without steps

How we price a hog roast for your wedding

Things that change the price:

  • The serving time and how long we are on site
  • Numbers
  • Menu choices and extras
  • Distance from us

Midweek and quieter months are frequently easier to book, and the menu you choose makes a difference too. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest what works.

Getting an accurate quote

For a quick, accurate price, tell us:

  • Rules from the venue or landowner
  • The venue or postcode
  • What the outdoor space is like
  • Your date and serving time

To get a quote, just tell us the date, where the wedding is and roughly how many. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Use our quote form.

Working with your venue

If you are organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a fête committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep everyone in the loop.

Venues frequently have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Ask early, and tell us what they ask for.

Looking after everyone

You’ll get allergen information for everything we serve. To make the most of it:

  • Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
  • Ask for gluten-free rolls for coeliac guests
  • Ask about dietary needs on your RSVP card
  • Give final numbers in good time

Give us your venue coordinator’s details, so we can sort the cooking spot and timings with them.

Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in evening photos.

Why a carved hog roast beats a buffet

Next to a cold buffet, hot carved pork beats sandwiches every time late at night. Extras such as lamb, chicken, more sides or china crockery add to the cost, so we list each one in the quote. A simple menu keeps the cost down.

Why us?

  • An itemised quote
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it
  • Our staff serve and clear
  • We bring everything to cook and serve

Common questions in Alkham

Is Alkham close to London?

Roughly 62 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

We are gathering after a service at Church of St Anthony the Martyr: can you cater?

Yes, at a nearby hall, home or venue with room to cook outside. Churches rarely have space for a hog roast, so the food is typically elsewhere. Send us the address.

What do you need from us on the day?

The agreed cooking area, access for our equipment and someone to meet us. We’ll bring the rest.

When should we book?

The earlier the better for popular dates. But do ask even at short notice: use our quote form.

What happens in bad weather?

The roaster is under cover, so a shower does not stop us. Plan somewhere sheltered for eating.

Is there a non-pork option?

Add lamb, chicken, halloumi and vegetable skewers or a vegan option. Please note we don’t offer halal meat.

Can you cook inside the marquee?

The roaster stays outdoors on level ground, and we agree the spot with your venue.

Can you cater in Alkham?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, Alkham and the rest of Kent included. Send us the address for a quote.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Carved to order by our chef, with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Not just pork: spit-roast lamb, chicken and vegetarian choices
  • Our team serves at your chosen time and clears up afterwards
