Wedding hog roast near Chalksole Green
A slow roast suits a wedding day that runs late: it can be held for a while once cooked, so a long speech will not ruin the food. We serve crackling, new potatoes and halloumi skewers, and we are regularly asked to cater weddings in a family garden and the main wedding meal.
Near Chalksole Green, weddings are frequently in fields, barns or gardens. A hog roast is made for that: no kitchen, just level ground and cover. Let us know about access and ground. Everything we need to roast, carve and serve comes with us, and we pack away and leave the area as we found it.
A hog roast or other catering?
Compared with a three-course plated meal, a hog roast wedding breakfast is relaxed and usually costs less per head. It still feels like a feast. Published UK guides give a wide range for hog roast catering, from around £10 a head for a basic roll to £20 or more with sides and service. We quote every event individually, with everything listed.
Why us?
- Self-contained: roaster, cover and serving kit
- Cooked on the day, low and slow
- An itemised quote
- Served at the time you choose

Where the roaster can go in Chalksole Green
The roaster needs the right spot, because it cooks outside for several hours, so a few things are worth checking:
- Light near the carving station after dark
- A level spot near, but not too near, the marquee
- Step-free access for our equipment
If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and the way in, and we’ll say what we think before booking.
What we serve
- Crackling
- Spit-roast lamb
- New potatoes
- Vegan option (Ve)

- Hog roast rolls
- Rotisserie chicken
- Salads

Full catering or machine hire?
Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from early set-up to carving at the end. A catered hog roast means you can enjoy the day.
A barbecue is the other obvious choice, but someone ends up cooking in batches all afternoon. A hog roast cooks in one go and is carved for everyone.
Planning for dietary needs
Tell us about dietary needs early and we will help. Tips:
- Share the menu with your venue coordinator
- Halal isn’t offered, so plan separately if needed
- Count non-pork eaters, for lamb, chicken or a vegetarian choice
- Collect dietary needs with RSVPs
On your wedding day, the food should look after itself. We roast through the afternoon and carve at the agreed time.
Add spit-roast lamb for a second roast.
How it works
We work to your timings. If things run late, we can hold the cooked roast for a while before carving, so tell us as soon as plans change. In Chalksole Green, evening wedding food frequently coincides with dusk: sunset is around 8:45pm in late May, 9:15pm at midsummer and 7:00pm in late September. Festoon lights by the carving station look lovely in the photos.
- You tell us your date, venue, numbers and whether it is the wedding breakfast, the evening or both.
- We check the venue’s rules and the date, then send a quote.
- Timings and the cooking spot are agreed with you and the venue coordinator.
- We roast during the ceremony and drinks, then carve at the agreed time.
- Our staff clear the serving area and we leave quietly.
Before we arrive

Planning help
For planners, venues and organisers
If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, whether you are a planner, a PA or on a committee, tell us who our contact on the day will be. We will keep you both updated.
Venues often have rules for outside caterers, including where gas cooking is allowed. Check early, and tell us what they ask for.
What affects the price in Chalksole Green
Every booking is priced individually, and the price depends on a few things:
- Menu choices and extras
- Time on site
- How many people are eating
- Plates or china
When comparing prices, compare the same things: menu, sides, serving time, staff, plates and travel. A cheaper headline price can leave things out.
What we need to know
To check availability and the cooking area, we will need:
- What the outdoor space is like
- The date and when you’d like to eat
- Rough numbers
- Allergies we should know about
To get a quote, just send us your date, venue and numbers. A picture of where the roaster could go helps us check the space. Send us your details through our quote form.
