A hog roast or other catering?

Instead of booking a restaurant, you keep the party at home, with room for everyone. Numbers make the biggest difference: the price per head usually falls as numbers rise, because the roaster, staff and travel cost much the same either way.

Why book with us

  • Serving and clearing done for you
  • Timed around your day
  • Choices for people who do not eat pork
  • Crackling for everyone who wants it

FAQs for Alkham

Can you roast near the sea around Alkham?

Yes, of course. Wind is something we plan for: a sheltered spot and secure cover.

Is Alkham too small for a hog roast?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and the ground.

Do you cover Alkham?

Yes, Alkham is in our area. Tell us the venue or postcode and we’ll confirm availability.

Do you leave the area tidy?

Our staff clear up after service, and leave the area tidy.

Do you need power or water?

Cooking is gas-fired, so no mains power is needed for the roast. A socket nearby is useful for lighting.

How much room do you need?

A level, open area outdoors with room for the roaster, a gazebo and a carving table, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging trees. We will check it with you before booking.

Do we need cover?

We bring cover for the roaster; guests will want somewhere dry to eat if it rains.

Do children like hog roasts?

Generally, yes, so we get the amounts right.

What affects the price in Alkham

Here’s what affects the price:

  • Distance from us
  • Season and day of the week
  • The serving time and how long we’re on site
  • Whether you want china

The price depends on numbers, the menu and how long we serve, along with distance and how easy the site is. There’s no one-size price, so we quote each one individually.

Details that help

These are the details we need:

  • Anything the venue has asked for
  • Where the roaster could go, ideally with a picture
  • The date and when you’d like to eat
  • Dietary requirements

Every quote lists the menu, the serving time, staff and plates, so it is easy to compare like for like. Send us your details through our quote form.

Should I cook it myself?

If you are confident and want to save on staff, DIY machine hire is an option. You do the roasting and carving; we’ll explain what’s supplied and how it works when we quote.

Roasting a whole hog yourself is possible, but it takes hours of attention, from setting up and lighting the roaster to carving. With us catering, you get to be a host, not a cook.

For planners, venues and organisers

Marquee suppliers generally set distances for cooking equipment, so tell them a hog roast is coming. We’ll keep the roaster well clear of the marquee.

For venues and planners, we can fit around your other suppliers, sharing timings and a site plan.

The process

A hog roast is always cooked outside, under a gazebo on level ground, away from buildings, marquee walls and overhanging branches. We’ll agree the spot with you beforehand. At midsummer, it is light in Alkham until about 9:15pm, so a garden party can run well into the evening. In late September it is dark by about 7:00pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. Show us the garden or drive.
  2. We check the space and quote.
  3. On the day, we roast slowly under cover.
  4. We serve when you’re ready.
  5. We leave the garden tidy.

Preparing for the day

  • Have a covered area for eating in case of rain
  • Name a contact for the day
  • Let us know about tight access

Stuffing and apple sauce

Sage and onion stuffing and apple sauce are the classic partners, cutting through the richness of the pork.

  • Roasted on site for several hours, outdoors under cover
  • Carved by our chef into rolls with stuffing, apple sauce and crackling
  • Lamb, chicken and vegetarian options alongside the pork
  • Staff to serve at the agreed time, then clear away
